p1 or newage sti

i,am having a issue right now with what will be best for the road my sti prodrive or a p1 to put a forged 2.5 block in has anyone got either with 450 each way. i have the block already and got a newage sti but might sell it for a p1 any thoughts on this thanx in advance:notworthy

urban 14 April 2010 02:13 PM

Newage, more comfortable - better car all round.

Matt23 14 April 2010 05:52 PM

As much as i do like the p1 if i were you i would keep the newage. They are better cars all round.

jameswrx 14 April 2010 06:36 PM

My mates p1 is on pistonheads.. he'd swap for newage Sti. His is the WR model with 18's, alcons, electric recaros. Plus lots of other goodies like fmic, vf35, coilovers, ALK, updated ARB's and bushes and drop links, defis etc etc

happydude303 14 April 2010 06:51 PM

clasisc with 450 bhp would be more fun on the road but if you buy the car for comfort then maybe the new age is for you, but lets face the the classic is lighter and more raw just depends on what you want from it and i love the classic shape

Gordo 14 April 2010 07:18 PM

do you mean the newage hatchback thing ???

urban 15 April 2010 09:59 AM

I'd say he means newage as in bug/blob/hawk

The hatchback STI is a very good car by the way.

verdasco1 15 April 2010 10:23 AM

P1's are nice but you get so much newage for the same buck, its hard to say no to a hawkeye for 10 grand! Then again the p1 won´t depreciate!

Badbird 15 April 2010 10:26 AM

Arnt P1's just underspecced type r's when alls said and done,

playtime 15 April 2010 12:29 PM

i have the newage bugeye sti it,s upforsale right now but will give it until sunday and if it doesn,t shift then the block will be going in that.
the bug is going for an over due mot in the morning and my garage is drawing up a spec list for the car.
ie, handling, exhaust, another turbo as i just got hold of a md321t but may go for the "v" instead for 500 eachway

for shopping, perhaps - looks awful and has nothing of the spirit of the classics. I've had a P1 from new and, if starting again, wouldn't even consider a hatchback impreza - mitsubishi Evo all the way in the current ranges.

Each to their own :)

TonyBurns 15 April 2010 11:06 PM

The evo is a lifeless soul, the hatchback gives better feedback and is a better car than any classic for driving :D

If you want the better car then its the new age, if you want a rattly, old car (though I dont have that many rattles in mine ;)) then the classic.

Tony:)

(though I dont have that many rattles in mine ;))

them rattles let me now im still alive :lol1: but yeah the new age is more refined for sure

ditchmyster 16 April 2010 07:02 PM

If you want a comfortable modern car then its the new age all the way.
But if you want a kick a$$ Pi$$ on anything driving machine that would be a
Type r 450/450 :norty:

Nah ;) a spec c would have it at that power :D

Owned both classic and newage, and the new age is and does give better feedback, unless of course you have added the quickrack steering to your P1 (I doubt that :lol1: ) as even my type R has only fast rack, and its not very communicative compared to the Spec C I owned with quick rack :p

which hatchback did you own?

TonyBurns 16 April 2010 09:16 PM

I didnt, but there is a fair bit of difference between a classic and a new age in terms of "feel", the over assisted UK hatches are on par with what the fast rack is like on the P1/Type R, the quick rack on the other hand is completely different ;)

Tony:)

Gordo 16 April 2010 09:27 PM

So you've not driven a hatchback, but you're an expert on them? Brilliant :)

I've not found the rack makes that much difference to the driving feel - speed of turn, yes, but feedback from the car is much more driven by weight/balance/suspension setup/tyres/wheelbase etc.

TonyBurns 16 April 2010 09:40 PM

The title is P1 or new age STI ;) and yes I have owned a new age STI, and yes the steering rack does give better feedback ;) you do get more "feel" from it, though I think you will find that a dccd equipped STI Type R or even an STI RA give a better driving experience.
Its not putting the P1 down but the improvements are there as subaru listened to what people wanted and gave them it ;) (but considering the P1 is based on a 1999 car.....)

Tony:)

Gordo 16 April 2010 10:08 PM

Tony - you said:

"the hatchback gives better feedback and is a better car than any classic for driving" - it was that that I was picking up on.

I think the hatchback is ****e, and you've said nothing to change my mind (not least because you've never driven one).

I've driven lots of scoobs, but the only one that consistently puts the grin on my face is the P1 - it's now far from standard, and perhaps that's why we're not comparing the same things, but it saddens me just how much Subaru have messed the model up since the late 90s.

TonyBurns 17 April 2010 03:51 AM

I test drove a 2.5 ;) not bad, better than a classic, still has a slightly vague feeling to the steering as per the uk turbo's and fast rack classics have, not as nice as a quick racked car (I will have a chance to drive a JDM hatch soon with the quick rack so that will probably feel much better :D) and having owned a MY03 JDM Spec C for over 3 years, a classic UK turbo for nearly 4 years and a JDM version 5 STI type R for over 16 months, I have a variety of scoob experience to choose from ;) (plus one of the first people to drive the MY02 STI just before they were released also ;))

Tony:)
