Are the road signs misleading?
I was in London recently using my satnav. As soon as i entered the road in the picture i realised i was the only car and was sure something was wrong but i had to carry on as it was one way.
I was a bit confused because i saw a sign with an arrow that directed me into the road which had some new roadworks on it but i was clearly not meant to be on it. Anyway, i have just recieved a Penalty Charge Notice for £60 contravention code 52 but i dont know if its worth arguing with it or just paying it. From the picture you can see an arrow that seems to direct you into the road but apparently normal traffic is prohibited. I could not see any signs telling me this. The roadworks have only been there for 2 weeks and you can normally drive down it. The road is Wilton Road SW1. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...scan0004-1.jpg You can see a no entry sign above the bus but i dont know if that is for another road. Because of the flow of traffic i was unable to change direction so i carried on. Anyone that knows London will know that you have to make snap decisions or get hit by another car. Are the signs inadequate? |
Every time i am in London something happens. I got spotted in a bus lane that was the length of a bus and not long ago i was hit by a double decker that didnt see me. :D
|
I used to work in Wilton Rd!
Totally random I know, but what the heck! ;) |
Can you check Google Street view to clarify the positions and relevance of the signs?

I looked but couldn't find where you were on it and it takes bloomin' ages to go the whole way and then track back.
I don't know London well enough to know where that junction is. Where were you going from and to? |
Wish they spent as much time and effort on catching the real criminals. Oh but wait, they don't bring in revenue.
Sorry hun, no help to you, but was too good an opportunity to have a wee rant :D |

On the map its 17 Wilton road. I think the junction is Hudson Place. I end up in the sky and all disorientated with these maps :D I was on my way back from Camberwell towards the A1 M1 to get to St Albans if that helps |
You sure they have the right road?
I can find a building that looks like the one in your rhs pic but no road leading off from it. As Wilton Road appears to be one way it can't be a pic of you turning illegally onto Wilton Road where the Junction is as you aren't facing oncoming traffic. |
Forum is slow tonight and also double posting. I'll have a look now as I see your last post
|
Can you unmuddle the link i put up? It shows the brickwork on the left hand side.
|
On my pic is the American Express and Hudson Place on the left.

If the bus was not on my picture i have then i would be able to see, its so frustrating. |
I'm at the correct place on the map but I can't see where you've gone wrong in any way.
If you came down Hudson Place you turned left and joined Wilton Road going in the correct direction. And your pic shows you going straight past Hudson Place and down Wilton road in the correct direction. The no-entry sign on the left is to tell you that you can't turn into Hudson Place. The sign in your rhs pic is directing you to the left of the obstruction. I presume it was blue with a white arrow. The only thing you can't see is if, at the time of your illegal move there were other signs further back up Wilton Road. Even if there were I'd contend it stating that there was another sign (the blue and white one) indicating you had to go to the left of the obstruction. Is there even any other way of proceeding. You can't go left and there isn't a right turn. Where else are you supposed to have gone? I'm not certain I understand what the "offence" is? |

My letter says that i failed to comply with a sign indicating a prohibition on certain types of vehicle. If the sign was there then it could easily have been obscured by a large vehicle. I think i will have to argue this one as i cant see any signs and the arrow was pointing me in the direction that i went. |
Either way, get on Pepipoo
Some stuff about contravention 52 here: http://forums.pepipoo.com/lofiversio...hp/t31797.html |

Never been on there, do i have to register?
Just give it a try. Post your problem on there and they'll help. I've been reading some other stuff about code 52 Google "london traffic contravention code 52" and click into the pdf "cctv traffic enforcement protocols etc" at the bottom of the results page. Then open the PDF and look at pages 39 onward for code 52. Some stuff in there that may help you. Yes it's Redbridge but I reckon they'll all be much of a muchness |
Thanks, i have just registered now i need to work out where to go :D
|
Right, i have copied my first post from here onto there so hopefully someone will be able to solve the mystery.
Knowing me i have posted it in the wrong place but i dont give a fcuk cos i am tired now :p |

If i did know i prolly would have followed it :thumb: |
<<Road closure:
A202 Wilton Road Victoria northbound between Neathouse Place and A302 Wilton Road closed A202 London - Wilton Road closed northbound due to roadworks between Neathouse Place and A302 Wilton Road , in Victoria. Diversion in operation - Bridge Place, Eccleston Bridge and Buckingham Palace Road>> Should have been some signs to make you turn left into Bridge Place? Public transport could go straight on....... |
i would'nt pay it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that arrow is telling people/cars to go that way....if anything your right and others are wrong??? i think  but looking at the pic thats what it looks like to me...........saying that, thats why i always pay £60 for going down the wrong way lol :D..............but no i would show them the pics and fight it :thumb:

I think you have to contact them Sara and ask exactly what they mean by it. If there is no sign forbidding entry then they surely can't do you for it. Any chance of you having another look at the road with a bit of time in hand?
Worth persuing, it might be a try on by them or that they have made a mistake somehow. Les |
