Unwanted guest in the loft
Just been surfing on the net upstairs, which for me is in the
loft. It's part boarded, so not really a room , and it's loaded with the usual loft based fittings lol ,chrimbo decs kids old toys etc just popped down to say goodnight to the kids , and as I went to go back in the loft, I can hear a strange noise as I stick my head into the loft there's a bloody great starling doing it's best to escape. Phoned the RSPCA, but as it's not injured, it dosent warrant a visit. I tried catching it , but it's gone down into the space between the ceiling and the eaves I've tried getting as close as I can , but no joy any ideas ? Do I leave alone and let it find it's own way out or have another go when I hVe more time and light Mart |
Try leaving it to find it's own way out. It is looking for nesting sites. We get Starlings nesting in our roof around this time of year. If not, if you can chuck an old sheet or a towel over it, the darkness should subdue it and you can release it outside.

do you have a cat?

Thought for a minute you had an immigrant up there.

When it gets a bit lighter - the bird should see the way out and do one...

I had a blue tit do the same thing; popped my head in the attic and turned on the light then I was dived bombed by this thing flying in circles around the light. It briefly perched on a rafter and I realised it was a blue tit...ahhhh. OK, now what?
So I turned off the light, left the door open hoping it would fly down into the house where we might be able to coax it out of a window; No such luck. It was staying put up there. Eventually I thought stuff it it, if was clever enough to find its way up there, its clever enough to find it way back out the same route. Had a look a day later and it had gone; so either its dead or it found its way out :) I looked everywhere around the roofline, flashing and soffits and can't find where it managed to get in, strange :wonder: |
I was on my Ham radio one morning when this field mouse appeared on my desk and just sat there watching me! Friendly little chap.

Mice are the problem where we live unfortunately!

Could have been worse, could have been a colony of Kosovan immigrants living up there. Takes more then rentokill to flush them buggars out.:D
