whats the stock 2001 uk300 engine good for bhp wise??

im just having a rebiuld and remap done only building back to standerd as cash is tight at the mo,, just wonderd how much bhp it can put down to the wheels with standerd block, as ive read ilot do 300bhp at the wheels easy on standerd angine, but the guy remapping it said its only good for about 220-240 at the wheels, is this true???
so if anyone could please tell me what bhp and whp i should be able to get that would be much help..

ive the following mods,

VF34 IHI Turbo
Sti pink 565cc injectors
Inner wing air filter
Walbro 255 uprated feul pump
Hybrid FMIC
Remap by Richard Bulmer @ Tractive Solutions
GFB twin trumpet BOV
GFB Quick Shift
40 mm Apex Lowering springs
KYB AGX adjustable shocks
Whiteline Anti lift kit
Whiteline rear anti roll bar and drop links
STI front and rear strut braces
Uprated front discs DBA
Mintex reacing front pads
Goodridge braided hoses
Blitz Nur Spec Back box and full de-cat from Turbo

thanx all ross..

a standard block is good for about 360bhp (had this on my wrx no problems!) the problem with wrx's is the gearbox. to much torque and the box eats itself inside out lol STI 6 speed gearboxs are good for 500bhp+

rosssti 25 March 2010 09:55 PM

i wonder where my mapper is getting 220-240 max from????

Turbotits 25 March 2010 09:57 PM

On a vf34 your looking at 330-340 at fly wheel but as above the mapper may cut it back a little to save the gearbox

rosssti 25 March 2010 10:07 PM

the mapper didnt mention the gearbox, he just said the engins internals are only good for abour 240 whp, or just under 300 at the crank,,

i no the boxs are bad as my classic running just over 300 had had 3 in the pads 2 years,,,

i was hoping to get this 1 faster than my classic, it has more mods to make it faster its just the internals that i need to no what they will take,,

id be happy with 330 ish,,,, if he will map it to that, he also said max boot he can set it to is 1.4 bar because of the engine is this also correct??
as ive heard them rum a tad more.

i think your mapper is mistaken. Loads of newages doing over 300 whp if mapped det free.

VF34 will be good for approx 340bhp and so would your engine (and gearbox if treated with respect).

run same block over 500bhp..

standard engine I would prefer to keep to 350bhp.. and gearbox should be okay depending on how hard you are on it at that too.

but done standard engines to beyond that.. two examples 397bhp and 401bhp on owners request and no issues. The 397bhp car has been running for a couple of years with no issues despite the owner trying to break it.

uk 300 is wrx . i had mine mapped asked for over350 bhp , the mapper made is change brakes intercooler pink injectors , welborg hp pump clutch and got blob eye box 05 , as there stronger than bug , even then he had ear phones on listen for noises , got 3 port boost thing air resonator cut panel filter td05 18g new turbo , he said cranks are strong , but they do not like to be revved (wrx)
i think he just been safe as he will blow your motor , mine took 4 hours to map and its a beast now , evo 9 fq 360 MR my mate has and there even believe it or not , got big brembos on now , hope you find the answer lol kv7

front mount ic cases lag unless your running big mods and bov i was told are a waste of time .ppg box is my next mod . as 6 sp sti are 2700 pound . second hand . ? Mick glending has a v10 running 900plus whp . he owns a garage near me , that's power . ps its a rally car , only runs 340 in rally / lucky bugger , goodluck good night kv7

Karen, you understand that a PPG box is like 4.5k new dont you? and they are not as strong as the 6 speed ones ;)

Garage Deffinatly mistaken.

Im aiming for somehwere close to 350/340 with very simular mods, and dayjavoo a recent rebuilt engine too for me. I'd hazard a guess at mine being 310-320 at the moment, but need a map tweak for the recently added mods. Unless im werong you will be limping around on actuator pressure boost for a good thou miles with a slow intergration of boost. Im running 1.35 - 1.40 at the moment after 2000miles bedding the engine in.

Ive heard that the gearbox should be good for 370bhp - 400bhp (maybe optomistic specualtion of other enthusiasts), but as mentioned above its the torque that kills it. Ive had to replace the NPS on mine as soon as i got it mapped the first time as these are 8+ yrds old on a bug and are prone for going when running more power.

EAT MY WORDS !!!!!

Just stripped 2nd gear tonight........................... haaaaaaaa

harvey 28 March 2010 01:09 PM

No disrespect but there are a lot of TY754 gearboxes running at 400 bhp and more without failure. Obviously their life is reduced at higher power but a lot will depend on the driver's mechanical sympathy and the clutch in use. A paddle for instance is a big no no as the shock destroys the gearbox.

rosssti 28 March 2010 02:10 PM

well ive rang my mapper and asked him to map it to approx 330bhp,,
should be finnished week on tuesday,, carnt wait....

just hope its quick enough for me as my classic was running 300bhp, hope this 1 is going to be quicker...

Taken on board Harvey... Mine was running with a paddle clutch, previous owenr fitted :brickwall. It wasnt my cup of tea so when the Gearbox is changed this week I'm replacing with a Exedy Organic.

The 400bhp car Harvey... what Torque was this running at?

harvey 30 March 2010 11:10 AM

My daily driver is STi 3 Wagon. 420 plus bhp and 390 ftlbs and has had an STi 6 TY754 for the last 3 years, perhaps longer. It may need a clutch change as the existing clamp pressure is now not keeping up with the torque increase. Not very obvious at present but I occassionally have slight progression of revs at max torque, up a steep hill locally. Just occassional. Over a 3 year plus period the car has progressed from 372/355 to 422/396. Probably done upwards of 36k miles on the STi 5/6 box in that time. Standard pistons, Eagle rods, ported the heads when I rebuilt the engine. Ground crank with ACL bearings. 740 injectors, my tubular headers and uppipe and a turbo I put together as a hybrid.
Paddle clutch is a big no no for me.
My STi 6 Wagon that produced 585 bhp/474 ftlbs at 2 litres on race fuel ran the O/E STi 6 box for 34k miles and the only thing I replaced on the gearbox was the centre diff. That now has a Forrester six speed from an M/Y 07.
