New X-Box released for Xmas 2010?
I've read a few rumours that Microsoft a releasing a new X-box console alongside Natal in time for Christmas 2010.
Anyone else heard these rumours...any truth in them? My kids X-box has RROD and I was going to buy them an Elite but if the above is true I may wait until Xmas. :) |
Not a snow balls chance in hell.

I expect they will release a bundle of Xbox + Natal but the current estimate for a console refresh (from Sony and Microsoft) is 2013.

It will be the 360 but a slim version if they do.
An image of what is believed to be a forthcoming Xbox 360 chipset revision has been leaked onto the Internet. The board, pictured below, is said to be the successor to the current chipset - codenamed Jasper - and features both the Xbox 360 GPU and CPU on a single die. http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox3...lhalla-400.jpg The combination of the two is thought to have been made possible by a die shrink, presumably to 45nm. Thought to be codenamed Valhalla, the chipset appears to be a drastic redesign from current Xbox 360 boards. The Valhalla PCB (printed circuit board) appears to be smaller than all previous iterations, and a shuffle of I/O port positioning suggests that the board will surface in a new Xbox 360 chassis. http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox3...172010-400.jpg *UPDATE* Here's an image of the CPU/GPU 'combochip' with the heatsink removed. I think they should get rid of the massive power supply they use

There seems to be rumour of an update coming out, that lets you save to usb 16gb thumb drives. So other words you wont need a harddrive to create & safe profiles or a memory card.

I think you're right, the 'new' console I have been reading about looks likely to the the Valhalla combined chipset and, as you said, possibly a slimmer console. I imagine it'll be released alongside Natal. I mgiht hold off buying for a while. :) |
