Been reading bits & bobs regarding Turbo Legacy's.Certainly seems to be an underated car. Does anyone have info or 1st hand experience of these motors, particularly the engine bhp etc....
May be a cheaper alternative than going back to Impreza ownership, initial purchasing and insurance come to mind.
Any views anyone
Cheers Col

Yep, I've got a '92 turbo saloon :)
You'd be hard pushed to find more car for your money. Performance is very similar to a UK impreza. It's a bit heavier though so probably not quite as chuckable (still excellent though). Steering feel is great - good feedback and weight.
Cheaper to insure than an impreza, but uses just as much petrol :(

Would highly recommend one. Don't know much about newer models though.
Oh, and bhp is 197 standard.

Later models are 280 bhp (manual), 260 bhp(auto/tiptronic)

They are far more refined than little brother, and are far less likely to rattle your fillings out. Without doubt the best compromise between ride and handling of any car I've driven. If you want to cruise 200 miles in a single joint, it's as comfy as a 5-series (but put your foot down, and it's grin-time)

They are probably less mod-able than the impreza, as the engine uses a twin-turbo set-up rather than a single one.

Try one out - you'll be surprised (but if you want to get the best out of the acceleration, take it to just short of the red line before change-up to minimise spool-up time for the second turbo - takes a bit of getting used to, but soon becomes second nature)

I had a 92 Legacy Turbo Saloon before my MY00 and it was a great car, bry quick once it was going. Build quality seemed very high although interior was abit date but totally squeak free.

I would strongly recommend one. Much better value than the Impreza IMHO.

I've got a '99 Impreza Turbo, and we bought a '95 Legacy Turbo with all the toys for my fiancee' about a month ago. Fitted some MY99 style 16" wheels and tyres and will fit 4-pot front brakes this weekend, too.

Not quite so quick off the mark, but just as good when on the move. Bit more stealthy and very comfortable.

I've seriously considered selling my Impreza, off-loading some debt and getting one myself!!

You simply can't get better for the money. :D

Are these just imports or something?

I just looked on the Subaru site, but they are not listed?

How much are they?
How fast are they?
Is the build quality much better? (or does the interior still squeak when I play the stereo?)
Where can I get more info?

Elvis... The Legacy Turbo was an offical UK ca runtil '96 or summat. After that, they didn't bother. All the new style Legacy Turbos are grey imports.

(I stand to be corrected  )
