Microsoft Browser Choice update

Why is this down as an important update for my copy of windows7 ?

As far as i can tell it just installs and asks me if i want to use a different browser :cuckoo:

Not installed it yet as it says it can not be removed once it is downloaded.

Microsoft is providing the Browser Choice update to comply with a legal settlement with the European Commission. Microsoft is required to inform customers who currently use Internet Explorer as their default browser that there are other web browser choices available. You can use the Browser Choice update to select and install the web browser you want to use on your computer.

As above. That's why MS have suddenly started a TV advertising campaign to promote Internet Explorer.

Still doesn't remove IE though, that's a shame.

Strange how Apple don't have to comply seeing as they bundle their OS with the Safari browser.

It's only available on Apple hardware.

How can you use sites that require IE if you remove it?

JackClark 14 March 2010 02:47 PM

Why should any site require IE, I know some do - windows update - but why?

Scooby Soon! 14 March 2010 06:49 PM

Plenty of non microsoft ones like https://www.parcelforce.net/

If its not IE than it does not work properly, would much prefer to use chrome......

StickyMicky 14 March 2010 08:43 PM

Started using Chrome on my Ubuntu laptop and it seams quite nifty/fast, although it utterly failed to display the EA Battlefield page when i was browsing.

Can't believe Parcelforce have such a poop site. Microsoft or nothing!! What about Mac and Linux users.

StickyMicky 15 March 2010 08:10 AM

Installed the browser choice update and it never did anything, it has never give me any options at all.

JackClark 15 March 2010 10:44 AM

It put an icon on the desktop of the machines I've just built.

i know its crazy. even iphone/itouch we are stuck with it :(

Opera is being sent to the app store this week, will Apple approve it, that is the question.

0ctane 15 March 2010 06:05 PM

If sites support only IE and I can't view with Firefox then I just take my business elsewhere and browse a site that is properly developed.

Loving Opera at the moment, especially the 'turbo' option. Just goes to show how slow IE8 is :(
