NOT a b****y BMW
I am fed up with talking to people about minis then find out that what they have is a BMW Euro Box so thought I would post some pics of a proper mini.
This is our 40 LE, had it a year now, bodywork fully restored with a few upgrades. Coil spring conversion, Minisport 4 pot calipers with 8.4" vented disks up front with Supafins and Mintex new built up rears. 57i, Maniflow LCB connected to a Fletcher 2" system. Custom dash, centre console and arm rest. Re-conditioned and upholstered seats and door cards. Sony head unit with 2 6x9 under the rear seat. http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL430.../384159372.jpg http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL430.../384159378.jpg http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL430.../384159361.jpg http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL430.../384159356.jpg http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL430.../384159366.jpg http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL430.../384159351.jpg http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL430.../384159335.jpg |
very nice, my son would give his right arm for that :thumb:
|
The saving grace of the BMW Mini is the early ones had a Rover (Midland) gearbox. Consequently thats why pre facelift BMW Minis have such a bad reputation for blowing gearboxes :D
Anyhoo, we currently have a Downton Sport Touring in the workshop; very rare. |
My Dad used to have, about 300years ago, a Yellow ex AA Mini van. It was the most fun car to drive, I remember the gear stick was about 3ft long and absofukcinglutley useless :D and the steering wheel was huge. I loved it, it was so chuckable. You didn't actually get in it, you put it on  :thumb:
That looks fantastic mate :thumb: |
still gotta very big soft spot for a classic mini, my mum dad bought me a stolen recovered mini for £50 as it was a bit rusty, me and my brother proceeded to hammer it around our fields for years.
|
that's a mini :)
|
Lovely car. But why have you abandoned it in the middle of a large field ....??
Dave |
Stunning.
That is all. |
I had one of these that was half way to being restored until my uncle didn't pay the rent on his yard and the buggers kept and trashed it.
Fantastic cars! Not a lot that can put a smile on your face like a classic mini |

Dave Glad you guys are likeing it, it has now cost more than tho Scoob! Got a week off at the end of the month to sort the engine, then ready for the summer, roll on London to Brighton! Should have said it did win first prize in its class at last years Newark mini show. |
Now that is nice
|
Well Ive had 6 Minis all BMW "Euro box" as you call them
and would choose one over the rover "shyte box" any day of the week |

Arthur - what's the story behind it? I really really like that. What's it worth (ish)?
My dad has a new Cooper S aged 19 (he was doing well as a session bass player - he's now 57!) and still reckons it was the best handling car he's had (he's had uR Quattros, Porkers, etc). I love that Mini - a true classic in the same class as a mint mk1 Escort. I realise BMW Minis aren't "proper" Minis and have no illusions that make me think they are "better" or "worse" than the real Minis - I like both for different reasons. |
Nice but the steering wheel ruins it.
|
Love it, apart from the rear lights. I saw a similar one in Mexico last week, it was surrounded by more modern show cars and was getting all the attention.
|
Really, really nice. Good job done. :)
As above, I would say the only thing I would change if I owned it would be the steering wheel and rear lights. Cheers Ian |
Got it last year, had to go all the way to Taunton to get it, was in quite a sorry state, needed a whole new front end, new doors and off side quarter panel. It has cost aabout £10,000 so far that includes buying the car in the first place.
Steering wheel I am hoping to do next week, going for a Wood and Picket John Cooper signature wheel but not sure whether to have a silver or black centre. Rear lights are staying as they are much better than the originals, all the lights are clear so they match and keep the water out! |
