Alloy Damaged Advice
 

Cars 4 month old and im running Prodrive GT1s in black.

Took my daughter out at night and hit a lowered manhole, right bang, anyway went home , next morning i awoke to a flat tyre.

After removel and closer inspection i could see a slight dent in the alloy, I put the flat tyre down to the bang and mishapen wheel.

Anyway i got a piece of 3 by 2 and hammerd it out all was fine, i later found a nail through the edge, so i had a new tyre fit. all is well now.

BUT on travelling yesterday at 80 i had slight vibration in the car such like a poorly balanced wheel, so off i trundled to my M8 at Kwikfit who whipped it off, and indeed it was unbalanced, we did the ness and alls ok.

But when we spun the wheel you could see the inside and the damage the crack of the manhole cover had done, nothing really major but not a circle anymore.

He mentioned alot of this happens and they can and do balance it out and mine would be ok as it wasnt that bad,

Just wondered if any of you also run with slightly off-shape alloys and have done the same.

Or should i at some point change it.

I now think the tyre was already nearly down when i went out that night and the bang was a result of not much air in the tyre,

IMO I'd bin the alloy and get another one if you can. No point risking your safety or that of your passengers. :thumb:

Try taking it to a wheel refubisher . My brother had a slightly buckled bbs rim . Think it cost him around £35 to get it straightened by a place near Ollerton , Notts .

metal cam never back to its true form. on a molecular level there will always be misalignment.
a refurber may make it look visually straight and balance ok, but unfortunately the damage is done and you have a weak spot waiting to buckle again.

I have children too and i would never take a risk like that with a wheel - get rid and buy another mate. can you imagine how you would feel if say you were driving along, children onboard, hit another pothole (very bloody likely with the state of our roads!) the weakspot gives and you swerve across the road into a lorry or a ditch or somebody else with children?

put a claim in for a new alloy with the council,get photo's of the hole and get a claims form off them

Why don't you get professional advice on the damaged wheel before buying a new wheel :wonder:

'Cos your family are worth more than an alloy wheel.....
