audi a4 avant 3.0 TDI s-line
Anyone got one these or had experience of ? going to look at one tomorrow......... currently driving a mondeo as an interim after selling the P1.
need something economical as I do 600 miles every week and good torque. cheers |
Great cars. Had mine (2.0) for 6 months and its been faultless, saying that its only done 18k.
Brother inlaw has a 3.0 TDI Sline Quattro saloon at the moment and he says its one of the best cars he's driven in a long time, and working in the trade he drives all sorts. I'm sure someone will be along soon with the usual rant about the sline package ;) Nik. |
Beware - another SNer is having huge problems with his (clutch/drivetrain) and i've heard of a few other issues, almost always with the clutch/gearbox.
We looked at one but decided on a 330d then found a 335d so got that instead. 330d is better on fuel (than the Audi), faster, lighter, lower emissions and handles better but if you need 4WD, like the Audi interior and want something fairly quick, the Audi isn't a bad bet. Beware mpg figures though - my 335d is meant to do 40mpg - it does low 30s. The 3.0TDI is about the same - the 330d IS thrifty though. |
Yeah alright saying beware on the Audi but the same applies to the BMW if not more so, swirl flaps, turbos, to name a couple.
|
On the 320d -yes. On the 330d/335d - extremely rare.
I've heard of many issues with the Audi 3.0TDI drivetrain. I've only heard of issues on the old 35d unit in the early 535ds. |
i do a lot of motorway miles, was expecting something close to 50mpg, guess thats an unreasonable expectation ?
|
I would say yes.

But they are obviously very suited to the official fuel consumption tests as their real-world fuel consumption is poor compared to the official numbers. |
i do 120 miles a day from leeds to warrington, my current LPG mundeo does it about £11. think i'll have to cut back on the bigger engine to something like a 2 litre - maybe the 320D

i have an A4 2.5tdi Quattro
i get about 38mpg (prob get 41mpg sitting at 70 on the mway) |

The Efficient Dynamics engine (came in late 2007 IIRC) has 177bhp, and better fuel economy - but obviously costs more to buy. There is a new, super efficient ED model with 163bhp and allegedly 68mpg combined cycle - although as I said before, BMW are very optimistic with their official fuel consumption figures! Remap could see 200-210bhp and maybe 340lbft, which would give it decent poke without losing any fuel economy on a run (although obviously it uses more diesel if you're exploiting the extra poke), which is another alternative. As I mentioned before, very happy with the 3 series, and the 320d is IMHO a smoother nicer power delivery than the Audi TDi. Suits us with a young family great - just don't expect it to be a properly quick car! |

120 miles for about £11- I could do with some of that- my girlfriend lives about that distance away and it costs me at least £25!!! Saying that, it is driving a merc sl500 but even my Ford Ranger uses about the same amount! I will have to get a girlfriend nearer to home!:norty: |
