Excuse my stupidity - about to fit the Subaru/LaMco boost gauge, this is calibrated as 0 to - 0.1 and 0 to + 0.15 MPa.

Fine, but what the hell does this mean?

As far as I can see MPa = maximum air pressure.

I can't find any reference anywhere on the internet or on here as to what relationship this has to PSI or BAR!!!

Mega Pascals

0.1 MPa = 14.503775 PSI = 1 bar

1 atm = 0.101325 MPa = 760 mm Hg = 14.7 psi.

John

Thanks - I guessed either you or someone like Pat would know the answer:)

Typical Subaru - why not put it in Bar or PSI like anyone else

Welcome to the world of SI measurements! You soon get used to them, but it doesn't sound so impressive in the Pub to say "and I'm running 0.2 MPa boost" .... ;)

Duncan ;)

To all intents & purposes move the decimal point & consider it as bar.

Amazing what can be found in a search.
So my peak of 0.13 MPa is aprox 1.3bar
Not so good is that the gauge only goes to .15MPa

Hi Paul : I have checked out the boost for your car as we discussed on Sunday and Bob has given me the following figures.

1.18 bar (say 2 bar) on full boost up to 4,500rpm
1.0 bar up to 5,200rpm
0.97 bar up to 6,000rpm
tapering to .81 bar 7k plus.

If you are seeing 1.3bar or whatever the units are on your little Mili Pascel guage then either the guage is wrong and it would only need to out by .1 bar at 1.3 bar to make the figures within spec or the alternative is you are suffering a significant over boost.

It could be the accuracy of the guages but as it is a new car I suggest you contact the dealer very soon and point out from your instrumentation you are concerned you have an over boost issue and can they check the accuracy of the guage. If you need anymore info telephone me or e.mail.

PS: Get the handbook out and give it a good read. Let me know what it says about boost values.

Cheers Harvey,

Will have a good read of manual today, at work.
Next corse of action, is to have gauge checked like you said.

Not related :- Popped into Dealer yesterday, reversed into bollard. OUCH!!!!!!!!!! New bumper on order.

Paul.

Let me know how you get on with the dealer. First you need to know if the guages they fitted are accurately reading boost before they do anything else. Any probs let me know.
Sorry to hear about the bollard incident. It is a real sickener and so easy to do.
