type ra or type r? what do you prefer?
do you go for the lightness of the ra or the sexyness of the type r?
is there much difference mechanically between them? |
type r is better gmho.
|
RA looks like every other impreza, the 2 door type R looks so much better :thumb:
|
type r for me :)
|
type r - love the 2 door look :thumb:
|
Type r looks better but then again they seem to be going for more money, for basically the same thing with 2 less doors.
|
RA has a few more goodies unless you go for a version 6 type R or a type R limited, not much weight difference between the 2, just depends what you want really?
Tony:) |
The type r bodyshell looks the nuts.........from an Ra owner.
Like Tony says....it depends what you want. |
The STI 5 Type R "v"-Limited is considered the best looking and performing. When Subaru was at its zenith. It was built to compensate those who had missed out on ordering a 22B. It could be ordered with any number of parts from the STI parts bin.
I had one and..... It broke me. But it is King.:thumb: |
No such thing as a sti 5 type r "v" limited.......
It was a Limited Edition without the "v" part...;) Also didnt have the super "quick sti steering" rack and helical differential as standard, which the sti Ra limited did.... |
RA owner, and agree Type R is better in every way.

That's why I put it in inverted commas. I know and you know that the V-limited is a myth. However I can assure you that if you wanted a quick steering rack. You got it. As mentioned. Japanese buyers could order, as they wished. Mines never even had a plaque?? But had all the toys including an STI fitted "Street Cage" with paperwork. Also came, Fully stickered up. By the Factory. S/R gear box(Choice of ratios) and sump guards front and rear. Also had Aircon? As said. For those who missed out on the 22B. Subaru allowed Japanese customers into the parts bin.:D The only things you couldn't get were the Prodrive bits. |
was there ever an ra type r........
|
no,that was another myth

:lol1::lol1::lol1: There wasn't officially But.......Other than the number of doors? |
For some reason when I went to open my mates door in his ra it felt so light the r feels beefier. If I knew better when i started modding I would of bought an ra ver 5/6

Parts could be purchased from the sti parts catalogue for any car at the time..ie sti cage, roof scoop, and the pink sti trailing arms.etc The reason yours didnt have a plaque is because it wasn,t built to a determined number. It was as you said built to order over a number of months. To say it is the best performing is unfounded.....the S201 has the better power to weight ratio and it was based on the sti ra limiteds drivetrain. But will agree it is a looker.........not as sexy as a 22B though. |

V6 STI Type-RA Limited for me. The STI Type-R looks better, but the 4DD is a superior car mechanically, in my opinion.
Re '2 door Type-RA?' - Subaru say not, although the applied model number seems to suggest so, giving rise to the rumour... |
I have some translated brochure scans from Dean over on Type-ra.co.uk...
Here..http://www.type-ra.co.uk/pdf/version_5_limited.pdf It shows the mechanical advantages the sti ra limited had.... The 2 door ra myth is down to the chassis code being an Ra....the applied model code was then translated incorrectly back in the day, leading to most sites listing the special 2 door ra edition.... But the brochure scan (below)of that model clearly lists it as a wrx type r limited(non sti) http://www.type-ra.co.uk/pdf/version4.pdf Subaru didnt make things easy...!!!! |
Is it the same gear box and engine in the 2 models, Type R and Type RA?
What is the maximum torque that the gearbox resists? |
The ratios differ: you really need to look at a transmission reference to compare the different transmissions numbers.
None are fantastically durable though and theyre all essentially similar: 320-340ft/lbs is about the maximum that you can hope for realistically. Some take far more but Im aware of some that turn up their toes at under 320ft/lbs... |

Both nice cars:thumb: |
It was the SPDA chart that I had on mind, yes :)
|
In my perhaps misguided mind its R for show, RA for go.
And thats why I'd have the RA. |

A ra is just a wrx with no extras and a shorter box unless you mean a sti ra. Type r everytime for me. |
This the problem though: so many people confuse the Type-RA, which was the cheapest car in the range, for the STI Type-RA, which is something completely different.
|
WRX Type RA STI Version 5 limited for me........
or maybe thats because I have one :D Cheers Rob |
