STI 330S Engine Warning Light...... :-(

Hi

Please help, got my new 330S on tuesday with delivery milage going steady ish :-) running this in, if im in 5th or 6th doing about 70 and put my foot down to increase speed after a few seconds of increasing speed the dash lights up like a christmas tree, following lights appear,

- Engine warning light if solid
- traction light in solid
- cruise control light is flashing
- power selection light is flashing (this is the one you change using the knob near the gear stick.

It kills power slightly but i still have full power control with no restrictions, still driveable.

If i pull up kill the engine and restart it resets and all is fine.

suggestions any one.

I have no Idea, but surely you want to be taking it back to the dealer... soon as you pop the bonnet these days the warrantee is void!!

Go see the dealer. Its new, let them sort it out.

Fast-lad 06 March 2010 09:01 PM

will be seeing the dealer first thing monday, just wanted to see if any one else has had the same happen,,,,,,,,,

rob84 06 March 2010 09:05 PM

Its putting the engine into safe mode when all of the things you listed come up, the only way to be sure whats wrong is for you to return the car to your dealer and get them to plug it into the Subaru Select monitor.

rob84 06 March 2010 09:07 PM

Forgot to ask when you increase your speed in said 5th & 6th gear is there any hesitation or violent shuddering of the car ?? also any rapid oil consumption ?

TonyBurns 06 March 2010 09:08 PM

Are you running it on v power or normal ul?

Tony:)

Fast-lad 06 March 2010 09:08 PM

as the lights appear the car does shudder

Fast-lad 06 March 2010 09:10 PM

i have only done 112 miles in the car has normal Unleaded as the v power station is a good distance away

sounds like fuel problems to me. there will be a fault code logged in the ecu when the light comes on so your dealer will be able to pin point the problem straight away

That wont be helping matters tbh, no matter what people say, you should always run an STI on a minimum of super unleaded fuel.

Tony:)

As Tony said itshould be on v-power or equivalent. It probably picked up some det (knock) as you loaded the engine in a high gear. Think of it like this, if you use V-power you will get the car run in quicker as you are going further for your petrol.

Abx 06 March 2010 09:33 PM

All suaru docs state it should be run on 98 ron or above, dont run on normal iunleaded regardless of how far shell or tesco is, if you have to make sure you stay off boost and only fill with enough to get you to a shell.

Ian 06 March 2010 09:51 PM

as above i only ever run mine on vpower. but if it says it is fine to run on 98ron, then it should be fine to do so. or am i missing something?

Fast-lad 06 March 2010 09:58 PM

i will fill the tank in the morning and see what it is like

Thats a load of old tosh!!!

All cars sold new in the UK must be capable of running 95 octaine fuel without problem.

But as said above it is much better to run on higher octain fuel such as V-power or Tescos, i always found mine ran like poo on BP Ultimate though when the car was still standard

Er..... not true. Honda S2000 for instance - 98 RON or above ONLY!

Subaru sticker on inside of fuel flap on my 08 STI states use 98RON!

If thats what I'm being told to use that what I will use.

G00ner 07 March 2010 08:56 AM

Plenty of 330S's have gone pop already, I'd be all over the muppet dealer on Monday morning.

PS, get a few cans of octane booster and keep them in the boot for those times when you can't find a garage with high octane fuel.

You will shorten the life of your engine with low octane fuel.

SunnySideUp 07 March 2010 12:08 PM

I usually stick up for Subaru .... but this is a disgrace - could just be a wire/connector loose, but it shouldn't happen.

The car should run on NUL fuel .... the sticker on the fuel cap is there from the factory and has never applied to the UK AFAIK.

That said, I only run mine on NUL when there is no alternative - and I hate doing so, whether or not the car is designed/mapped for the UK and therefore can.

Mog 07 March 2010 12:58 PM

Sounds like it overboosted to me, same thing happened on my 330s.

STI's yes, seems quite a few have gone bang

But 330S's - you sure?
There can't be that many of those around surely?
I thought they were limited edition and therefore restricted numbers?

Regardling the fuel.

I wouldn't run it on normal unleaded, or if I did it would only be in an emergency.

Sadly here in Northern Ireland the best you'll get is super unleaded and even then thats geting harder to get sadly.
We don't have the luxury of V Power or tesco 99 :(

G00ner 07 March 2010 03:44 PM

I've read of at least 2 (Rob84 and Aaron Bird) on here and another on SIDC, I know there was a new map being loaded onto cars when they made a visit to the dealers, but there was no recall, so if you take your car to an independant or a muppet dealer like Sparshatts then you wont have had the remap done.

f1_fan 07 March 2010 04:03 PM

Was in a dealer a week or so ago and they had a 330S in the workshop with engine failure.

Do the 330S's also need an updated map?
I thought that was standard STI's just

rob84 07 March 2010 05:20 PM

Just the Standard sti needs the re-flash as the 330s is a completely different fuel map

Fast-lad 07 March 2010 10:49 PM

Thanks for all your posts, I filled the tank today with V Power, had a quick test, so far so good, Due to work commitments I will not be able to take the car to the dealer until Wednesday, Will try the same on the motorway tomorrow on my way to work to see if it happens again. :-)

Mog,,,,,,,, if you are reading this post would really like some more details on your overboost problem.........

Thanks Jamie :-)

Are Spar****ts still going??

When I bought mine new, in May 2000, I had an interesting talk with the Sales Manager at that time ....... he was a right nobber!! :lol1:

Didn't buy there and sent a letter to the Director pointing out why ... he did post on here explaining that they had changed and to give them a chance.

Maybe they really have changed now?

Anyway - that's completely off thread - I would get the error codes read ASAP .... don't wait, as if you do damage by ignoring the lights you are partially to blame if something goes bang.
