6 Speed box conversion. Help, Thx

Hi guys, i need your help.
I need a 6 speed box conversion for my 52 wagon.
At the moment i have a 5 speed with a slipping clutch.
Do you know anyone that does a 6 speed conversion with a clutch and all the bits and bobs !
Thx :)

Any idea how much :)

EH52WRX 06 March 2010 03:39 PM

And what do you require ie, diffs, prop shafts, drive shafts. Thx for all your help.

gearbox (obv) rear diff, driveshafts, prop shaft(the STI gearbox is bigger, the prop shaft is smaller than a wrx prop!) gear selector, 6 speed clutch(dont think a 5 speed clutch would fit a STI box)

IIRC, the five speed clutch does fit, but if you're going to spend all that money to upgrade, might as well do it right and get the correct clutch for the application.

I was looking to buy a helix or an excedy hyper clutch for my 5 speed box. But i was just speaking to the guy who owned the car before me, and this is the second 5 speed box the car has had. I dont want to spend all that money on a new clutch and the box goes bang, so he said what about getting a 6 speed box with a good clutch and it will easily take my 400ftlb of torque.

IIRC my 6 speed Jap conversion was around the £3k mark :D

When I did it on my classic I got the gearbox, diffs, linkage, gearknob (essential) prop and not sure what its called but the support for the gearbox. The clutch from the 5 speed still fits. If I was onlyt after 400lbs I would rather go with a ppg gearset.

Stevebt,

Does the 5 speed knob not work with the 6 speed linkage ?

I know the 6 speed has a lift to go into reverse..

I have a titanium wrc limited knob and was hoping to use it along with recently purchased 6 speed box ...

stevebt 06 March 2010 07:56 PM

You need the proper 6 speed knob as as reverse is on the other side. If you forget about this its supposedly a nightmare to get hold of

rooferman 07 March 2010 10:34 AM

But the gearknob will fit then......its just the pattern sticker that will be wrong?

Fat Boy 07 March 2010 12:49 PM

5 speed flywheel and clutch fit. AP racing organic will take 400ftlb and still feels oem. Speak to David at API engines - one of this sites sponsors - hes very helpful and usually has all the bits. He'll talk you through it happily. £3k is about the mark

Fat Boy 07 March 2010 12:50 PM

re gearstick - no, 5 speed linkage and knob wont work

rooferman 07 March 2010 01:21 PM

But will the 5 speed knob work with the 6 speed linkage?

dazdavies 07 March 2010 01:26 PM

no it won't

rooferman 07 March 2010 03:16 PM

Ahh bugger......!!!!!

Looks like i have a wrc titanium gearknob for sale then...

Whats the difference the thread size ???

stevebt 07 March 2010 03:43 PM

I'm sure the top bit will fit ?

rooferman 07 March 2010 04:01 PM

Ive just tried it and it fits fine ?????

And the lift mechanism also works perfectly.....;)

stevebt 07 March 2010 04:40 PM

It will be fun if you put your car in a garage and the mechanic is trying to reverse it :D

rooferman 07 March 2010 04:46 PM

The wrc limited gearshift doesnt have the shift pattern on the knob itself....but comes with a sticker that you put on the centre console nearby......

So i just need to source a 6 speed sticker i suppose.....

Or i could be cruel and leave it as it is ....:lol1:
