STI airbox on a WRX?

Im new to the forum and completely new to the world of turbo tuning.

Ive owned and modded hondas for the past 8-10 years with some great track builds and therefore know that alot of stuff is interchangable on different models.

I currently own a 2001 bugeye WRX which has a cone filter and no sensor. I know this is killing the power on my car and need a replacement asap.

Can i fit a stock bugeye STI airbox in its place? Will i need a MAF sensor?

Any help would be great as im going to place an order today.

Cheers :thumb:

The Airbox will fit straight in.

If you dont have a MAF now the car must be running on an aftermarket ECU that does not require a Maf.

Theres no record of it having an ecu. Ill check. Where is the ECU located on a scooby? Passenger side footwell??

Cheers for the help.

Yes passenger footwell, i would look again for the maf it could be located in the induction kit housing.

If i has the Maf it will fit in the airbox housing all the same. I would check on here or ebay before ordering an airbox as they are not cheap brand new. Infact i have one with a slightly used green panel filter.

Cheers mate. Very helpful info.

Ive been quoted 40 quid from jap performance parts including a filter. How much would you say is a fair price?

Are you selling yours?

Thats a fair price, when you said order i assumed you were buying brand new.

Mine is over in N, Ireland so would be more cost effective for you to source one there on the mainland

Yeah shipping would work out quite pricey.

Cheers for the help mate. Much appreciated! :thumb:

I can't imagine someone has ditched the MAF and moved over to using the MAP. The newage MAF is pretty robust and is used for most applications to over 400 odd BHP.

Unless your bugeye is running massive mods I'm sure The MAF is somewhere. :D

AFAIK the WRX and STi used the same inlet tract........it was one of the things that Subaru actually got right on the bugeye LOL. I just wonder if the guy you bought it from has the original tucked away in his garage somewhere ?

I can confirm that the MAF is connected to the cone filter.

The guy that i purchased it from went on a spending spree in Scooby World and ditched the airbox completely.

Ive purchased the STI box which should perform slightly better :luxhello:

don't forget the intake on the front and the resonator box in the inner wing.
