Indian Takeaway v. Frankfurter

Had some time today to go and have a look at a couple of cars.

The current family car is a 530d Touring so looking for something nice to lug the family about.

The first look was a Jaguar XF with the 3.0S diesel engine. It claims 0-60 in 5.9s and it certainly seems to be that kind of pace. Fantastic, luxurious sports saloon that feels half the size it is. Brilliant to drive, great ride, super quiet. Paddle gear box, lots of toys as standard.

I also got sneek peak at the new 5 series - it is due out on forecourts this weekend.

It looks MUCH better in the flesh than the photos. It is much more compact than I expected and the interior is as good as you can get. Much better than the outgoing model.

An interesting choice between the king and the contender.

I must say, I always liked it spicy!

i would have thought sushi tbh

Would that be a Lexus or a GTR?

actually as I typed it I thought the Japs don't make anything to match the beemer or the jag

so as you were,

I had a Jag once, my then three year old loved it -- it drove a bit wallowy but was like sitting in a Gentlemans club (Kingfisher blue with a cream leather interior yum yum)

The new ones have become sports saloons - nothing like Jags of the past!

I like Jags. And I really like the new XF. That would be my choice if it were my money.

Indeed it is a VERY, VERY nice car.

How about the new XJ replacement? That will be interesting to see.

The XF 3.0d S has some strange acceleration times...

0-60mph = 5.9s

0-100kph = 6.4s

Now that is a long time to go from 60-62mph - sounds like the gearbox was set up to do a quick 0-60 sprint!!!

On the road it does feel as if it has less thrust than the BMW 535 (or even the 530) diesel. But that could be because delivery is so linear. There is no doubt it is quick and a great chassis.

an often missed point is that if you buy the Jaguar

you get to say -- "shall we take the Porsche or go in the Jaag"
