How much would you pay for a water pump?

My GF (well sort of Ex gf but complicated) just took her car in to get a water pump replaced, and she was charged £363. That's fine, apart from her brother got it done a month or so ago and he got charged around £200? (don't know if its the same garage) Her dad phoned around first and it was the cheapest garage he could find, so the price difference cannot be due to an expensive garage.

I don't know how long it takes, but if any body has any idea could you please let me know, or how much you would charge if your a mechanic yourself. Or if you've had it done before and know what you paid?

It's an old clio 1994 i think. A 1.0 litre. So its not like it's one of these new cars where everything is so compact and you cant get to anything without taking everything apart first.

Yes but if you knew somebody who had the exact same job, on the exact same car (think i forgot to mention that in OP) and paid over 150 less, you'd be curious.

Besides you have an alfa. You get off on having your car fixed :D

With french cars it does depend on what was done.

A lot of french cars have the water pump driven off of the cambelt. For example, it could be a diesel clio does and a petrol clio doesnt do this.

if driven off of the cambelt then it is adviseable/wise to change the water pump, cambelt, tensioners and auxilary belt at the same time, especially if the pump has been leaking.

I speak fro experience of french cars and the f**king cost of doing simplish jobs!:)

Not all garages realise this

£25 for me. :D

But then it was a BMW, and they are a doddle (so long as you can get the cooling fan off).

But as Paul says; many traverse engines have the water pump ran off the cambelt, and on French cars thats a pig - too much other stuff in the way impeding good acess (such as engine brackets, inner wing, cam cover, ancillary belt etc.)

Just an update.. Turns out her brothers car was done at the same time, and they made a 'price mistake' when they charged him. Hmm.

When I got the 205's cambelt done in the tail end of last year it cost me £207 all in. That was a new cambelt kit, pulley, water pump (which runs off it as Paul said) and about 4 1/2 hours labour. I was quite happy with that seeing as I didn't wanna attempt it myself just yet :D

One question though mate, has she got big tits? :luxhello:

About a c cup but the longest leg. Why?

The place is full of "off ripping" garages. The labour charges are through the roof and the price for parts is also ridiculously high now.
