Are classic STI brakes Brembos? And more...
 

I was reading these:

So does this mean my classic MY00 Turbo 2000 has 4 pot Brembos on the front but are branded with Subaru on the caliper?

Also how are the 4 pot brakes i have on my classic any less effective than the 4 pot brake kit Prodrive offers, this kit is Brembo, is this the same kit on the classic STI's without Prodrive branded on the side? Is it just that the kit is a bigger setup, bigger calipers enabling bigger disks and pads?
But saying that this setup is for 330mm disks and Godspeed offer a conversion using the standard 4 pot caliper and that has 335mm disks for £625:

Worth paying the extra £365 for the Prodrive kit?

No, you appear to have the wrong end of the stick in a few different ways here. They're four pot calipers, yes, but the system is not manufactured by Brembo. Where'd you get that idea? They're made by Sumitomo if I remember right - with the same system being used by Nissan on the 300ZX. Obviously enough those calipers have Nissan logos on them.

No it isn't. The Prodrive front brake upgrade kit is made by Alcon.

No, classic STis have the same front brakes as you have on your UK classic - as the article you linked to explained.

Search is your friend. This question has been asked a hell of a lot - primarily around the time Ian produced his kit. The "Subaru" four pot system is basically pretty good. Ian's solution, as well as allowing a larger diameter rotor, corrects the standard system's biggest achilles heel, which is a 24mm disc thickness.

PMSL, shame on you for attacking the apparent newbie.

Everything in the above post is correct, I used to have the Subaru 4 Pot calipers on my P1, I have now swapped to the 330mm Prodrive kit.....wow what a difference.

No 1. Cheaper race pads.....my Ferrodo DS2500's now costs £120 rather than £180 due to standard sizes for 'proper' calipers.

No 2. The Prodrive calipers are the real deal, Alcon manufactured, lightweight aluminium. You wont be able to believe the difference in weight!

No 3. Increased disc size for better heat dissapation and larger suface area obviously...beware discs are EXPENSIVE!!!!

No 4. The Subaru 4 pot pistons tend to bind, no easy way to sort it without going to Godspeed and buying fancy pistons in a remanufactured caliper.

No 5. Braking, I swear I can lift my rear wheels! :)

Reading this i assumed this meant the STI's had Brembo brakes.

Lol again from reading the same paragraph i decided they were made by Brembo.

Just starting to feel even more stupid now!

Feeling slightly better as i was on the right lines ha.

You won't regret the Alcons, they are awesome.

Discs for two piece bells and rotos from Godspeed are about £450, not sure on standard ones yet, but pretty sure they are about the same.

But don't worry you dont stand a cat in hells chance of warping them! :)

hi i have a 1995 wrx sti with 16" alloys with 2 pot calipers if been offererd 4 pot calipers off a 99 sti version 5 will they fit has there not much clearance with the 2 pot???? any help

Will all depend on which 16's you have.

The 4-pots were std fit on STi MY97-00 Classic with those 5-spoke 'curvy' gold 16s :).
