Alexander Graham Bell - although he seemed to live in a variety of US and Canadian (and Scottish) places - I think you'd still call him a famous American.

EddScott 02 March 2010 10:22 AM

Only one american with Graham in their name I want to get close to

I was only really thinking about 1st names. So far you've only come up with one and on that one I can't say I'd ever heard of the Governor of California prior to Arnie and he doesn't apparently call himself Graham anyway.

I can think of loads of UK/Irish first name Grahams/Graemes, but not a single American one. Curiously it seems to be a popular name for sportsmen here, so if you want to give your son a head-start on the way to sporting fame, just call him Graham/Graeme.

Graham Le Saux (ex Chelsea & England)
Graham Rix (ex Arsenal & England)
Graeme Sharp (ex Everton)

Rubbish, if you look in any US telephone directories they will be hundreds of Graham Smiths, Google it.

Turbo2 03 March 2010 03:20 PM

I'm not saying there aren't any Grahams in America: just that there aren't any famous ones.

As for LPB's list of American Grahams? I bet any regular American would struggle to recognise more than a couple of those names, especially this one... :lol1:

■GRAHAM NELSON, Computer Programmer

And what's England's Graham Chapman and Ireland's Graham Norton doing in that list?

wayne9t9 03 March 2010 07:08 PM

I have noticed over the years Graham Nortons accent becoming more mid-atlantic. But he`s still a gayer.....
