Where to start ??
Hi ya,
Been member for ageseeeeeeeeeees !! Jus never post  My lovely ladie is just about to take ownership of a P plate WRX & I jus wanna know where to start to make a little more power (around 350hp) & keep it an everyday reliable car :) It's got an aftermarket exhaust & filter fitted but not sure what else as I haven't properly seen it yet. I know it's still runnin a top mount so that's first on the list :) But what next ? Aftermarket ECU ? Or the standard re-mappable ? Boost controller ? Injectors ? And where can we get these bits cheap ?? :) And which clutch to take it all ? Thanks in advance :notworthy jb |
jap or uk model?

Sorry mate, it's a Jap Import.

260 ps as standard. cardboard internals. tired engine. 380cc injectors, td05,small slanty tmic. you have a lot to do. 350 is achievable if, and only if, you are prepared to put your hand in your pocket. start with exhaust, good downpipe, change the air filter. it will be fast enough for her anyway. you know women cant drive anyways.

lol cheers for the info Sinky, that sounds like how it's runnin at mo, exhaust & filter wit de-cat.
She's used to quick cars, she drives my Cossie enough & thats 530hp RWD ;) Whats a decent downpipe & filter ? Are the exhaust's 2.5" or 2 3/4" ? How bout ECU ? Whats the next stage from there ? Cheers again jb |
P reg is from 1st Aug 1996 - and MY97 happened a month later, so it's 11:1 odds on that you have a MY97 (post a pic of your engine bay to make sure though)...
For a guaranteed 350+:- * Walbro 255 fuel pump * 550cc inj. - with Fuelab FPR to control them reliably * Large K&N cone CAIK (to make space for a FMIC) * TD05H 18g turbo (from harvey or Andy Forrest) * Hybrid GTSpec2 FMIC (from harvey) * NGK PFR7B plugs * Decat downpipe + full system * Bespoke map on Apexi PFC or Simtek ECU management A MY97's exisiting MAF (if going PFC route) and MAP sensor should be fine for the airflow/boost target you need for 350+ |
All that will just kill the clutch and gearbox.... IMHO.
Stick to mild tickle, and enjoy it for what it is, not a money-pit. Sorry ! dunx |
The above advice is served with a disclaimer that it's certainly NOT guaranteed that your 'box and/or engine's internals will take that power for long though... :(

Cheers again jb RWD cossie with power. hmmmmmmmmm...............twitchy arse out action. look out for a Hayward and Scott downpipe. Look for a sports cat. fully decatted is a PITA come MOT time unless you know the MOT guy very well. ECU wise you could do ok with an ESL daughterboard that would allow basic reprogramming of the ECU. You might need a boost controller as well. Other ECUs include Apexi, ECUtec ,Motec, Autronic, Link, GEMs, Simtek, Solaris. All vary in price from a few hundred pounds to several thousand for Motec. next stage would be looking at FPR and upping the boost by a small amount say 1.1 - 1.2 bar. With supporting mods you can have a reasonably quick car. |
JB your be driving it soon.... after that encounter you had with that blue RA you was trying to keep up with on the A217 :D
Havnt seen the cossie around in a bit mate, are you not working down beddington lane anymore ? James |
