running issue with my 94 sti

only just brought scooby, it has had a full enginge rebuild. straight away had to change two coils. but im still having problem when at boost! basically it boost's up ok but wont go over 5500 rpm, just seems to miss fire after it reaches 5500 rpm?? its running 320 bhp at 2.0 bar . any ideas?? could it be a faulty fuel regulator?

your running 2 bar? fuelling sounds to be the issue. hope you have decent FPR. hope you have decent size injectors and IDC is not at 100% around 5000 rpm.

the guy i brought it from owns a garage and he also rally's subaru's on a daily basis. he done the rebuild, so i will have to pick at his brain to see what he has fitted cheers!

5500rpm max, sounds like your in limp mode.

Try resetting the ECU:idea::thumb:

scoobydriver10 27 February 2010 07:58 PM

i'll try that tomorow and see how i get on cheers

2 bar is VERY high - hope the rebuild was more than standard spec or you will be needing another very soon.

Who did you buy it from fella?

scoobydriver10 27 February 2010 09:36 PM

the guy i brought it from rally's scoobies, and has done for some time! he runs a garage so he knows his stuff! car is built to a high spec with all internals upgraded 70 miles ago. he sold me the car cheap as the body work needed a little bit of attention! soon to be completed. straight away i had to change 1 coil pack as it had failed (standard) have ordered upgrades! check light comes and goes, so tomorow will reset the ecu. and check codes! and turn boost down to about 1.5 bar to see if problem persist. i think its teething problems as car has been unused in his workshop for best part of a year now. and she shifts alright if i dont allow revs to go to high. i think going on what others have said,it might be in limp mode..i will let 1 and all know tomorow cheers for responding!!

So you're gunnning the car on high boost only 70 miles after a rebuild???????????? What ever happened to running an engine in!

scoobydriver10 27 February 2010 09:45 PM

not thrashing car just tryed a couple of times to see if problem solved. otherwise driven very sensibly.

joz8968 27 February 2010 09:47 PM

Should run it in for the first 750-1000m. Gradually bringing in more boost from a start point of 3500rpm or so as the miles progress through the running in period. Don't be shy to use full boost occasionally though!

scoobydriver10 27 February 2010 09:51 PM

i only started driving car today so will turn boost down abit tomorow! and run it in for a while! but i think problem might be sensor!! fuel pressure i think so untill ive checked code faults i wont know for sure!

joz8968 27 February 2010 09:59 PM

Yeah forgot to say, if you're able too, then turn boost target down to around 0.6bar too!

If you can't do that electronically, then temporarily disconnect the input/output connections to the BCS and join together with a barbed straight coupler. Then you'll get raw w/g pressure at c.0.5bar only...

nice one joz8968 will let you know how it runs after turning boost down.
