440's

Anybody running 440's with td05? Mine are maxing out at 1.2 bar. Fuel rail mod and sard reg at 3 bar.

FB Tuning 25 February 2010 07:32 PM

Another half a bar of fuel pressure will give you a bit of headroom to run a litle more boost, but really you'll need a set of 550's to get the most out of a 16g

440s

i am running 440s on my 1993 wrx boosts fine, sure its not boost/fuel cut have you had it map to run on them?

mit 25 February 2010 09:35 PM

I'm running 3bar fuel, 1.5 bar boost, no problems, also with a sard reg.

jimes 25 February 2010 10:19 PM

na not boost cut. greddy boost controller mapped by jgm. only thing i can think off maybe the fuel rail mod is causing a prob?

jimes 25 February 2010 11:52 PM

mit do you know what your idc's are? id be lean as hell at 1.5 bar!

mit 26 February 2010 09:55 AM

To be honest, i don't! It was all mapped proprly with the ESL Live ecu, so boost is set via ecu, not a boost controller.

Mine maps to cut @1.5 on the simtek, boosts to 1.4 but mostly 1.2 - 1.3.
Installed a later map sensor on mine which obviously helps raise the cut.

jimes 26 February 2010 07:21 PM

swapped out fuel pump today, injectors are at 100% duty cycle at 1.2 bar and afr's are on the lean side. Guess my injectors are just not flowing 440. Wonder if z32 maf is why?.......

53 26 February 2010 07:26 PM

Don't be offended, but, are you sure they are 440's ?

jimes 26 February 2010 07:37 PM

im not easily offended! well there yellow 440 sti's but they havent been flow tested. Anyone got any 550's?!

53 26 February 2010 07:47 PM

Send them to Mark @ Lateral mate...last time I enquired it was £165+vat all in for flow test/increase, way cheaper than buying 550's.

nice one, might just do that

FB Tuning 26 February 2010 08:31 PM

If the injectors are Phase 1.5 (97/98) 440's then they can't be modified for increased flow and improved spray pattern. - They can be ultrasonically cleaned and individually flowtested though.

Your Z32 doesn't have any bearing on the fact that your injectors are are at full duty cycle, and you're still running lean.

If your Greddy Boost Controller supports RPM based Boost Control, than you could always run a bit more through the midrange, tapering off at the top end (making sure that the fuelling and ignition is suitable)

Have you replaced the Fuel Filter on the car?

What are you using to check the AFR's?

Turning the fuel pressure up by half a bar should give you some headroom on the Injectors, but will make your current setup a bit on the rich side everywhere else in open loop.

The Phase 1.5 440's go static at around 87% duty anyway IIRC.

What does "go static" mean? Does it mean that they stay fully open, even though IDC is 87% (rather than 100%)? :wonder:

jimes 26 February 2010 09:40 PM

phase 2 440's. profec doesnt have rpm based boost unfortunately. thought as much about the maf just thinking aloud trying workout whats going on. I have an innovate lm1 wideband.

53 26 February 2010 09:41 PM

Glad I bought P1 Phase 2 440's then :D more by luck than judgement :lol1:

Yes - they just go wide open, as they don't physically have time to shut before being pulsed to open again.

When mapping, the point at which the injectors go static can normally be seen as a very slight rich dip in the WB AFR trace in the log. ;)

This point can also vary slightly by fuel pressure, due to the pressure on the back of the injector valve

jimes 26 February 2010 10:12 PM

could you adjust latency?

joz8968 26 February 2010 10:16 PM

Sure (thought so) - but thanks for the reasoning. Interesting interesting. :)

FB Tuning 26 February 2010 10:16 PM

Latency can be considered as just the timing of the injector opening point, nothing to do with the overall flow capability.

You'd adjust the latency time to get the correct offset between the ecu commanding the injector to open, and the injector actually opening.

It has more of a noticeable effect on AFR's at low rpm.

jimes 28 February 2010 06:46 PM

so do you think ive just been unlucky that my 440's arent flowing the correct amount?
