Blobeye headlamp sealing?
 

Hi,
Can anyone tell me what sealer Subaru use for sealing the headlamps?
One of mine has condensation behind glass so I guess needs heat up and reseal with more sealer.

Or should I fit a breather pipe to the back of the unit?

ok here goes. you need to take the headlight off the car. take all the screws out of the back of the light(i think theres 8) then you need to sit the headlight in front of a heater or put it in the oven for ten minutes at 50 degrees(trust me!!!). this softens the mastik that is used to seal the glass to the headlight unit. when it is soft the glass will pull off.then just wipe the glass and put it back together while the mastik is stii soft.you can use new mastik(you can get it from a windscreen fitters) or just black silicone.when i did mine i also took the orange reflector for the indicator out as it is just clipped in and painted the bulbs orange.(looks much better).

do a search for 'detango' on here and you will find threads with full instructions, I would post a link but am at work and dont have it saved on my work pc, when I did mine I used exterior universal silicone sealant when putting back together to ensure that unit was sealed properly and have not had any problems

Have done quite a few de-tangoed scoobs and i use TEK7 to reseal again....never had 1 steam up yet!

Oven...or a hair-dryer...heat...pull....heat...pull and presto!

If you want to reseal headlights in exactly the same way that the manufacturer would have done OEM style, then you would need to buy some of this stuff:

Its a rubber butyl based headlamp sealant and no doubt would be near identical if not the same stuff that subaru would have used.

However.......

I've done it twice now and never had a problem touch wood with a combination of reusing the existing seal with some extra sealant.

I left the remaining seal and reheated it until it went soft then used

Dow Corning 791 Black from screwfix and put a bead of that in the track of the headlights just to make sure - works fine.

Just use the heater, prise them apart after warming them up gradually, heat, prise, heat, prise, and pull them apart until you can run a knife through them to cut the seal thus leaving some of it left either side to re-use. Just dont get any of it on the inside!
