leak into boot
 

Hi all , we have 2001 bugeye, love the car but recently got a problem; we have a small (but very annoying ) water leak into the boot. My best guess is the bottom right corner of the rear screen. seems to be very difficult to trace though - does anybody know if there is a common problem??? Thanks

it is a Common problem mate,

i had it on my My00 I found that mine was coming in via my spoiler holes, so i sealed them and its fine,

after doing my searching on here

its either

1, Spoiler Fixing holes
2. Rear Lights

Thanks, me thinks I will have a session in the boot at the weekend with good lady outside with the hosepipe and see if either of these suggestions are the culprit. The water droplets seem to be hanging off the rh boot hinge when I open it though which still makes me think I might have a screen problem!:brickwall

If it's coming from your spoiler lift the boot lid and look round where the screw holes are, if it's coming from them then it will have all condensation about that area.

mine was the lights:Whatever_

The sources of leaks I've seen on here, and the relative frequency:

1. Rear lights: 75%
2. Spoiler: 19%
3. Boot rubber seal: 5%
4. Rear windscreen: 1%

sorry to hijack this thread but i got the same problem on my 99 5 door turbo, its quite a bad leak though loads of water under the spare.

would the solution be the same as suggested above?

any help would be appreciated.

i have got it but its on the left side of the boot.
i was blaming the spoiler as its got an sti8 spoiler fitted on it (on my 2001 wrx bugeye)
so i guessed it wasnt sealed properly.mine seems to have condensation type moisture on the opening hinge on the left side....
going to have to sort it out

Odds on both of the above are rear light related.
Remove rear lights, scrape off all old sealnat, reseat the lights in a good 1cm thick be4ad of Carafax, available from caravan dealers and some branches of Halfords. DO NOT use silicone.

There's a Butyl rubber sealant on the market identical to the stuff Subaru use to seal the rear lights.
Its called Sikalastomer 710
Its not easy to find in the shops, however it can be bought by mail order. I bought some from a site called caktanks

If you can't find it, as said above, Carafax Caraseal is ok, or any other non-setting sealant.
