what connections are avaliable on your 5.1 system?

Ant 14 February 2010 09:28 PM

check your tv setting for which port to use as the audio out

urban 15 February 2010 10:27 AM

You'll need to go for optical out on TV to your receiver

StickyMicky 15 February 2010 10:31 AM

TV sound is not 5.1 though.

You need a 5.1 source to provide 5.1 sound
Normal tv sound is only 2.0 if i remember rightly ?

Yes true, but the TV probably outputs DD and with hopefully his LG 5.1 will do the rest.

Which LG system is it - the one around £700?

Butty 15 February 2010 11:31 AM

What LG unit is it?
If its something like the HG304 then it will take RCA stereo audio from the TV.
Not sure what you are doing with the HDMI and TV to AUX as that will be just the picture from the LG to TV, not sound going the other way round?

The HDMi will only be working in one direction ie to the Tele. the Tv wont be sending anything back in terms of audio through it. As said above you'll need to use optical out or aux out.

If you're using Sky then the AUX outputs from sky box(or similar) to surround sound works.

We'll as he's using an all in one of some sort its unlikely to have multiple audio inputs as such.
If he's lucky then it'll have one.

Sky only output the odd thing in DD too - most is just stereo

The only way to get DD 5.1 sound is to connect the digital sound output of your TV or viewing source to your amp via an optical or co-ax digital cable.

if his home cinema system is half decent, his Amplifier will beable to take the stereo single from the tv and convert it to 5.1 using Dolby Prologic settings.
