side light bulb replacement on 2005 wrx ??

just noticed my side light bulb on left side hs gone. havent been out to try and change it yet but have read in the owners manual that you need to book into dealers as the headlamp unit has to come out and then be realigned is this right or is it something you can do yourself any comments gratefully received thx

Headlight certainly has to come out. If you park the car on a level surface facing a wall you can turn on the dip headlight and mark the beam position on the wall. Do the work without moving the car then reset the alignment to the wall marks.

Most headlights are set a bit low, the beam centre is marked with a tiny circle in the middle of the plastic lens. As a rule of thumb I have calculated 1 degree is about 1/2" in 2' which is slightly less than the "normal" setting of 1.25 degrees. If you park the car with the headlight 6' from the wall then you need to set the cutoff at 1.5" below the circle height.
