falken fk452

i was looking to buy some new tyres as need replacing very very soon,i know the above tyres are not the best you can buy but are they bad tyres or are they good tyres for the money ? would love to buy the ultracs sessantas but might have to budget a bit more than i thought.its around 400 for 4 fitted as opposed to 300 fitted for the falkens.any advise as once i have bought them ill have to keep them.thanks :thumb:

car is 02 newage sti with wr1 alloys 225 / 40 / 18 are the size.

JonMc 13 February 2010 11:16 PM

Personally I like the Falkens, I used them to replace some old yokohama's and they are a better all round tyre. I don't go too mad, and I have yet to find the grip limit on my bugeye with 235, 18s fitted. Good both wet and cold especially considering the price. The sessanta's I have heard are superb, but until I try some I couldn't imagine them being worth and extra £100. If they were the same price I'd try the vredsteins.:thumb:

I fitted 2 falken 452s on my classic today they came from camskill if you type falken in the search box theres a lot of good reports on them.

addison 13 February 2010 11:27 PM

I have just changed from 452 to ultracs sessantas
The 452 were great could not fault them
just for a change i am going to try ultracs sessantas
too soon to tell as yet but the ride is better (not so hard, wife will like)

99greenwagon 13 February 2010 11:29 PM

this is the second set of fk452s ive had,and i think they are good for the money,i had 4 215/35/18 fitted for £330 all in,only a couple of weeks back.:thumb:

Markfey 13 February 2010 11:45 PM

I've only ever had classics but i've used Bridgestone Potenzas RE040 or RE050 and i swear by them.

I've tried avon zz3 and toyo proxys and they don't compare in any way.

Not sure if they do them for your car but they were made specially for the impreza.

Rosy 13 February 2010 11:48 PM

Using falkens at the minute on my P1 and I like them. I hated the potenzas I had on originally (let go very suddenly!) and I love the toyo T1R I had on last but I find the falkens better in the cold/wet. I love vredestein and have put them on my 06 wrx and they are great!

Bottom line if money no option toyo/vreds are great, but falkens are better on the budget and dont feel budget.

Just my opinion but I everyone is different!

Hope you get what you want

Recently bought a set for my Type R (17") and think they are great price, wear and grip (wet and dry)

MARANGONI TYRES / CAR / MARANGONI MYTHOS - 215/35R18 84Y XL TL :: £98.70 :: Car Tyres - MPV Tyres - People Carrier Tyres - 18" :: R18" - 215/35/18, 215/35 R 18 ::

joz8968 14 February 2010 12:13 AM

Falken 452's in 215/40 R17 (for my wheels) from Camskill are only £60. :) Mmmn.......

Stealth 14 February 2010 01:37 AM

Just bought my new Rota's with some 225's stretched on to them, I have used nothing but Falkens for the last few years and they are a great tyre, grip well, ride well.... all round great!!

Rally fan 555 14 February 2010 09:39 AM

Another vote for the Falkens I had them fitted a few months ago on my 18" Redlines, they perform very well in all conditions - you won't be dissapointed with them ;)

ozzreid1964 14 February 2010 09:45 AM

i've only used falkens on my 2 previous scoobs can't fault them .once i get some new wheels for the current scoob i'll be getting them again:thumb:

salsa-king 14 February 2010 10:19 AM

don't buy the cheaper falkens, I had them and they wear really well.. last ages but cus they were harder were poor in the wet.
spend a bit more on the falkne tyre and they were a lot better for not that much more.

Toyo's not bad either for about £80

my god ! i put this post up lateish last night and only just checked it and cant beleive the good things i have read from you guys, didnt expect so many of you to have used these and speak so highly of them !thanks guys i will most likely give them a go.are they better in 235 40 18 as opposed to 225 40 18 ?

DEANO1988 14 February 2010 10:42 AM

falken

ive used the fk452 and the ze912 which are a little cheaper and tbh couldnt tell the difference. they are very good in wet and dry and for £60 you cant get much better, but it depends on how much you want to spend.

jonny_693 14 February 2010 10:57 AM

Had 452's on for a year now and I can't fault them either and still only half worn. Great value tyre.

The one thing you can 'guarantee' a plethora of posts on in short time, it's a tyre thread! :)

That, and another ruddy oil thread, obviously! :D ;)

carl heath 14 February 2010 11:35 AM

what oil should i be using.......... only kidding!LOL its good that we can get advise on these issues joz because i have had to save money up to get tyres that should have been changed long time ago,ive tuned exhaust, air filter, ecuteced ecu, coilovers, roll kit, arbs etc...etc... and the only thing that puts it on the road is that bit of rubber !!!! so what im saying is with all the mods ive done putting a cheap tyre on would defeat the object, for the money id say vreidsteins would be ideal, but the cost of the falken 452 and good feedback from you guys about them it may swing the ballance towards the latter.has anyone had 235 instead of 225 and is it better for it.thanks.

joz8968 14 February 2010 11:50 AM

You're totally right! You can have all the power/torque/traction/suspension set-up in the world lol, but the only thing that can express all that are those 4 tiny fist sized patches of rubber!

Everyone has a budget and prioritorises their purchases based on their own intimate, personal criteria. But it looks like these tyres are getting favourable comments as a decent all-round tyre in the gap the exists between the mid-range -to- premium slot! They're looking like THE value-for-money choice!

Hell, I might even choose 'em over Sessantas for that very reason......

carl heath 14 February 2010 01:12 PM

me too. sorry to bug but can any one answer my question on the 235 40 18 being better/worse/or no different to 225 40 18 please ?need to order them from camskill today or tomoz.

joz8968 14 February 2010 01:29 PM

235's should offer more potential lateral grip (cornering force) than 225s. If your car's set-up can exploit that extra grip, then you'll invariably lean on them more, so in theory they will wear quickly on the outer quarter of tread/shoulder.

But then again you'd do the same on the 225's anyway! I'd fit the widest tyre you can, for more theoretical lateral grip..... in the DRY! at least ;) (Oh, the wider tyres might tramline more when tracking straight and have a more restless/tiring ride - so something to think about......)

Rally fan 555 14 February 2010 01:32 PM

Doesn't it depend on which width of wheel you have - i.e. mine is 7.5J and was recommended to use 225/40/18 on mime ?????

joz8968 14 February 2010 01:41 PM

The wider rim will stretch the tyre more, reducing it's sidewall height. If the rim's TOO wide it can cause initial fitting issues and may want to 'roll' of the rim under heavy cornering!

A norrower rim will case the sidewall to baloon out more.

I suspect the optimum rim width for 225s and 235s (i.e. not too narrow/wide) is 7.5J or 8J...??? :wonder:

flat4phil 14 February 2010 01:44 PM

Most of the 452's sold, will be 87 load index which may allow a little too much flex on say 45 series up, but I have slightly stretched 225/35 452's on 8.5 rims = perfect road manners. I've been using these now for over 6 months, through all the snow, floods and ****e that the NE of Scotland could throw at me, and I'm still alive so far. 452's get my vote. Camskill mail order makes a lot of sense, but many tyre shops stock 452's anyway, just make sure they are 'E' marked, as they are made in Japan, so you may get JDM tyres imported which don't like the wet as much as the Euro compounds. Certainly found this when I had Japanese fitted 452's on a previous car.

carl heath 14 February 2010 01:57 PM

im not sure what size my alloys are to be honest, 8J or 8.5J ? they are prodrive wr1 speedline alloys(NOT REPLICAS) 18 inch, so if anyone can tell what they are and whats best for these i would be better informed on my choice of tyres to order today.

joz8968 14 February 2010 02:12 PM

The wheel size (certainly the ?J width) should be stamped into the alloy itself (I don't think it's on the cosmetic outer side though :wonder:). You may have to remove one off the hub to see...

carl heath 14 February 2010 02:23 PM

ok joz i will try and look but they have had a refurb and it was not the best i have seen, its quite thick in places (paint) so not holding my breath mate.

joz8968 14 February 2010 02:27 PM

Hopefully someome should know what the WR1 alloy's width is anyway... ;)

JonMc 14 February 2010 02:30 PM

235's sit nicely on 8J as I have on mine:D
