Renault Megane Cambelt
My 2003 1.5DCi Megane Cambelt is long overdue for a change and I don't really fancy paying Renault 550 odd quid for their services....
Anyone know of or can recommend a decent company that can and will do the job for a lot less? I'm told that the water pump needs changing at the same time so.... :wonder: |
No-one? :(

Is the car two years overdue for a cambelt change?
You don't have to have the waterpump changed, but it is recommended, as if it starts to leak (common) or it fails, the cambelt would have to come off again, so it's a preventative measure. Autodata state the time for new cambelt, tensioner pulley, water pump and cooling system flush and refill as 3 hours labour. I'm not sure how much the parts will be, at a guess £150, but phone round your local motor factors and price it up that way, avoid main dealers and take it to a local Mechanic. |
You might also want to have the aux (serpentine) belt done while you are there.

Buy the kit and water pump yourself. google the bits you need to get a good price. then get you tame mechanic to fit it.
I got my 406 2.1td cambelt kit which was a good quality kit with the wheels and tensioners for around 46.00 cannot remember how much the water pump was but not cheap. The water pump is likely driven off of the cambelt (french are cnuts for this) so if it goes you feck the belt and pulleys and have to do it all again. I CANNOT REMEMEBR FOR THE LIFE OF ME WHERE I GOT THE KIT FROM. My TD was a b1tch to work on, no room to work and you had to take loads of bits off including the osf strut to get to the belt and pump. Tyres Northampton chaged me around 120-140 to fit the belt and pump, part where under 100.00 which is pretty good, stealership wanted 440.00 + vat |
I would buy a gates kit (which is what renault use) and i would buy an auxillary belt aswell
