Which rally slag to buy?
 

Which of the following rally slags would be the best buy?

Best in terms of performance, handling, availibilty and cost of parts, and also tunability.

Escort Cosworth
Celica GT4
Pulsar GTIR
Impreza STI V6

celica is value for money IMO scooby is another winner cosworths are coming down in price and pulsars are fast as fcuk..... hope this helps :D

the dogs bollocks car is a rally slag:D

had scoob x2, gtir and the gt4

gtir fun but made of old kitty cat tins and fall to bits
scoob nice but common as fook and thirsty
gt4 not so many about lot better build quility fast but does'nt feel it like the other 2 but for me it was the best but hey we are all diffrent so go for what you like :thumb:

Don't think you're right there, They will never come down in price now because people keep breaking them and they keep getting crashed & stolen :( The other 3 are great cars but there are too many imports flooding the market which is why they don't hold their value :(

Which one you buy is down to your budget, you can get a good example of any of the Japanese ones for less than £5k but you need £15k for an Escort :eek:

Impreza by a mile. The others shouldn't even be said in the same breath with the excetion of the Cossie which trades largely on it's image/rose tinted glasses. You get those cars 100% stock and they won't even see where the Impreza went.

That's not necessarily true, my sister owns a very quick wrx classic but on the roads it doesn't really come close to my 350bhp sapphire Cosworth due to the drivetrain losses and lack of weight.

The Impreza is definitely the best bang for the buck and if I hadn't w*nked so much money on 2 rounds of time attack last year I would have bought my friends sti 555 :( In hindsight I should have done that instead of time attack :rolleyes:

The thing is a Cossie needs to be on dark greens and a 3 bar to even stand a chance against a std scoob.

As others have said, prces are shooting up

cossie! the best looking and is a legendary car although it costs a lot to keep them on the road.

Audi uR Quattro - better than all of them... ;)

My friend gave me a lift into work in his GTiR once. Never have I been in a more scary car in my life. It wasn't scary due to the speed but due to it being a complete tin-can. In a crash i'd rather be in a Ford Ka than a GTiR.

And I still have one, no issues there either :thumb:

You don't win six straight WRC by building unreliable cars !

Gti-R is the best performance and fun (straightline anyway) per pound, IF setup well and looked after they can be very quick.

I had one for 8 years, and even with only 330bhp on standard internals (I did run W.I., a huge FMIC and FM oil cooler amongst others) I did a 12.2sec run at Santapod, with the right mods it was very quick through the B roads too (mapped for low lag, lightened, full whiteline suspension, 4 pot brakes etc) showing my brother modified Evo5 a thing or too.

Accept for a broken transfer box one time mine was reliable but being a member of both GTiR clubs I saw many friends blow pistons and gearboxes over the years, too many in fact, so that's always the worry of owning a Gti-R. Paranoia, very quick but can be fragile.

They are raw and loud too (especially with a Mongoose exhaust popping all over the place) and arn't built to the best quality, but isn't that what a 4wd rally slag is all about?

Buy one for a nice and cheap amount (under £2k these days), learn to work on it yourself, try not to spend much on it, and only use a weekend play thing.... and the worries shouldn't be there if it goes pop? I can't see you having more fun per pound.

The GT4 looks the best choice for "everyday" transport. Still decent looks, tunable, not too bad on mpg, and well....different. Imprezas are too common, and Escort Cossie's are too valuable to take out of the garage and blat.

But they are rally prepped.

It was pre Delta Turbo but my Dad had a brand new Beta Turbo.

It was rusty on delivery.
It was on it's THIRD engine after 18 months.

Kind of damaged the brand a bit in my (young at the time) eyes!

I know a guy with two Grale Evos - they are lovely but he spends thousands keeping them on the road. Total money pits.

I'd rather have a Quattro Sport. In fact my Dad very nearly bought one (after three uR Quattros) but the rear space was too tight for us kids - DAMMIT!

Iimpreza would be the top of my list , I had a Escort cossy about 13 years ago , as standard it was crap , no go , loads of lag , it didn't stop , you think the early impreza brakes are crap , the escort cosworth has one pot calipers fitted , the gearbox has crap ratio's , and has a weak 3rd gear , I broke a few , the drivetrain vibrates pulling away at about 1500 revs , was told , they all do it !

After I had changed the suspension , fitted big brakes , chipped it up , fitted 18" Rondels , it was a lot better , and it certainly looked the dogs danglies

The Sti V 6 would eat it for breakfast

I suppose it also depends on the 'public impact' factor and nostalgia

If you want adults to think it is great, and to chat to you about it, then I would say GT4, Escort, 'Grale....... if you want 10 year old chavs to shout 'awwww mint!... innit!' and adults to think 'f-ing chav' then the scooby is the way to go.

If you want a rally-slag to adore then once again the GT4 etc.... if you want a rally-slag to, well, treat like a rally-slag then once again go with the scooby as these are no loss if they get smashed to pieces

Totally agree, and parts are cheap and easy to get.
