Its sold but.....

2002 car
55,000 miles
Not even run in properly.
1500quid bargin
MG : 2002 MG ZS 180

There is a bloke on the Xpower forums selling a mk2 2004 car with 40k miles for 1600 quid, its a bit rough and needs the back bumper repaired, but its a hell of a lot of car for the cash IMO

SERIOUSLY tempted to buy the 2004 car myself, just to tidy up and keep.
Seen a good few 20k/25k cars going for 3k now, insane prices IMO

StickyMicky 16 February 2010 09:20 AM

Utter bargin and IIRC it was about 200bhp

dazzaturbo 16 February 2010 09:38 AM

a stripped ford ka with an rs turbo lump in it my mate has got one only about 145bhp and can live with cossies and scoobies no problems and its a doddle to work on too.

If you are considering a 205 behind the Mx-5, pop onto forum.205gtidrivers.com and have a look around. Some very knowledgeable heads on there and many projects for track/drag/fast road etc.
Cheers for the link, i will pop over there and have agnder for inspiration:thumb:

you have mentioned working on mini's in the past, how about that, cheap easily tunable and probaby the best fun car out there, plus there are the racing clubs out there.
Have considered it but trying to find one that isnt rotten is impossible without spending big money!

Sticky Micky : thanks for the idea of rovers, saw a supercharged one not so long back for about £3k! Bit too much money though as i need to keep the budget as close to a K as possible? Good to see you still on here, I bought a set of white OZ alloys off you about 6 years ago!

Good idea but i need something with a little less work needed to get out on track, with a new born in the house i am amazed that i am getting away with even buying another car let alone having time to work on it ! lol :freak3:

Quick look on ebay, and there are several with the budget, inc some track prep'd and mi16's.

StickyMicky 16 February 2010 09:06 PM

Were you not called Floppy Dave ?

I wouldn't bother with the supercharged ones, they seam to be a bit fragile.

I have seen 2001 model 180`s go for £800

Metro with VHPD/Lotus K-Series?
had thought about it, trouble is finding a gti as a base without a rake of rust in it? me and some mates built one back in the day, was hilarious if a little scary!?

Were you not called Floppy Dave ?
Thats me! couldnt get back on after a few years with that name lol... i didnt use them in the end, refurbed them and flogged them to a gt4 owner, after a bit of research turns out they were rare as fook and made about £300 profit on them lol:luxhello:

StickyMicky 18 February 2010 09:53 AM

Nice one :D

Metro would not be my choice, tooo old, and i think messing about with older cars/engine swaps just ends up with loads of pain/problems
Some of the younger chaps have been buying these MG ZR`s, pulling out the engine and slotting in the 620 ti engine for 250+ bhp

I suspect they handle like a bag of spanners to be honest, but they seam to be doing the conversion for pennies (620 ti entire car is about 400quid lol)

I went down the small car with big engine transplant when i was a youngun and i still have nightmares about snapped drive shafts :D

Matteeboy 18 February 2010 10:09 AM

Forgot about the ZS180 - decent V6 so plenty of torque, good chassis, fairly tuneable and cheap to look after. Not a bad option at all.

H12ST D 18 February 2010 01:17 PM

Yeah if i could track down a taty 180 that could proove a good choice, the parts (bumpers, interior etc) seem to go for ok money as well?

Not really wanting to get into engine swaps this time, i want something i can attach for half a day with spanners and get out on track for some fun!

Just for anyone who is interested, there seems to be some right deals on here Opentrack Unique Track Events - Welcome to Opentrack

Right then folks, after a lot of thinking and alcohol fueled debates with my bro i have 3 options on the cards at the moment:wonder:

1) MX5 ... as discussed speaks for itself, easily sellable next spring
2) Pug GTi6 ... very underated car in its standard form which never has seemed to appeal to boy racers as such examples seem to be good nic and cheap. Lots to strip and sell to help fund it as i go and worst case the engine could be dropped into a 205 next winter?:norty:
3) MG ZR160 ... I agree that the 180 would be a great car but space wouldnt allow it, as stated we like the thought of a K series and spares would be ten a penny should they be required. also good barry boy market for the ZR kit and leathers etc.

SO - place your votes NOW!:thumb:

paulwrxboro 20 February 2010 02:05 AM

i like the idea of the pug...if it was me id go saxo vts :D

Dave Thornton 20 February 2010 09:44 AM

Although the MG ZR and ZS are dirt cheap, is it really sensible to buy a car with an engine that has so many problems with head gaskets?

Gutmann pug 20 February 2010 09:50 AM

Mk2 golf E30 BMW

Loads of the guys on Northloop have them. Pop over and have a chat if you like

mbayley77 20 February 2010 11:09 AM

Whats the matter with a good ol scoob.

Have bought two recently.

A wagon for £400 needing a temp sensor and a classic tatty wrx for £400

They are out there.....just keep looking

paulwrxboro 20 February 2010 11:41 AM

The smaller the car is it will be cheaper to keep on track lighter on brakes, tyres ect

H12ST D 20 February 2010 11:54 AM

If i could find a scoob then i would consider it, but at those prices they are few and far between?

Valid point on the rovers though, i think they are my guilty pleasure? K series is an awesome engine if handled right, the V6 is also great but if the plenum goes its some serious expence!

Cant make my mind up for the life of me, think its made even harder as i will be buying it out of my savings short term until i sell the motorbike!

mbayley77 20 February 2010 03:31 PM

The Subarus come up every few months or so.
Also price of things really depend on what technical ability you have...no dig at anyone intended by this!
But if you are able to find a damaged or problematic car and source cheap spares and repair yourself then often bargains can be had.

That is why i suggested the ZS 180 ;)

It does not have a problem with head gaskets, as it has a silky v6 lump under the bonnet :)

H12ST D 20 February 2010 11:25 PM

Well I am going to look as a cosmetically tatty but structurally sound ZS180 tomorow going for £1600. Its a mk2 MG so has the big arches but will be selling of all the body kit to keep it economical, will let you know how it goes :)

StickyMicky 22 February 2010 08:33 AM

Is that the silver one? ;)

Papillion 22 February 2010 11:02 AM

If you are still after an MX5 for track days ask the guys at MazdaOnTrack.co.uk as that's what they do: race MX5's and should be able to point you in the right direction. :)

Good luck with your search!!

Because they are all battered to hell and the chances are they will require a rebuild in the not too distant future ?

Not to mention that most of the bushes will be made from jelly by now.

H12ST D 23 February 2010 06:05 PM

It was the one on XPower forum Sticky Mickey, didnt go to look at it in the end due to the snow... well that and my brother who plied me with stella!

He keeps trying to get me to have a 328 e36 bmw, he has an E36 M3 which i think he secret;y would love to take on track boesnt have the bottle, he thinks he will then be able to use mine! ;)
