Anyone needs anything i work at Sytner BMW in Sutton:thumb:

Matteeboy 11 February 2010 10:24 AM

So Spider - any daytime pics yet?!

Vr5RA -nope but I was very impressed with Sytners Leicester (where I bought my 335d) - not so handy for servicing though. My nearest Sytner is about 250 miles away!

I hope you're running the new 335i on super unleaded Jay-bee!! have a look at this!....

You able to tell if a car has been serviced within the BMW network? ;) My 330d appears to be missing it's last stamp in the service book annoyingly, and I'm wondering if BMW keep a record of cars service histories?!

I personally think that if you rush and get a 330, you'll kick yourself everytime you see a 335... just be patient, the right one WILL come along. I know its difficult, I was like that when I was looking for my last Scoob, I started looking at all sorts of stuff, fortunately I held out and got exactly what I was after - and felt all the better for it. Same with the Beemer.... keep searching mate, and just keep ringing the stealers and harassing them. Have you tried Vardys in Edinburgh? Also, if you havent tried where I got mine from, give them a ring on 0115 9341414 and ask for Helen Tassi - I reckon she'll be able to hunt one down for you :thumb: - tell her I said hello!

I only use V Power or Tesco 99 RON, wouldnt use anything else in a performance car - after owning 3 Scoobs over the last 7 years, its safe to say its well ingrained :D (we even used it in the misses 172 Cup when she had it).

Matteeboy 12 February 2010 09:29 AM

Petem - mine was serviced just before I got it but they didn't stamp the book. They first one (stamped) was at 12.5k and I bought mine at 16.5k miles so there's no real "gap" but still a bit annoying. However your key stores service info so don't worry - it's all on record (which I find a bit alarming at times!).

I have a random theory on super unleaded - it makes a difference on turbo'd cars, but naff all on NA ones.

Looking forward to seeing more pics!

Ignoring the power/safety reasons for a moment, my understanding was that that even on N/A engines, you'll still benefit from the improved MPG?

Either way, I still think its good practice to use the best fuel possible if you are using a car with a performance engine - you wouldnt feed a thoroughbred horse or an athlete crap, you'd use the best fuel available - IMO of course :D

Matteeboy 12 February 2010 09:57 AM

I still think super unleaded/super fuels are mainly a bit of a con. Yes they are higher octane but they sell far less of it so they degrade more - your 99RON petrol is often lower than your 95RON. It's been debated to death but I'm still not at all convinced and I've used both on my R32 Golf - not just one tank but several of each.

As long as you avoid crappy supermarket fuels, I think you are fine. However I do think there is a small benefit for turbo'd engines, especially Jap rally reps.

There have been many tests where the difference has been naff all.

Japorter 12 February 2010 01:46 PM

I want one!!! in face this is going to be my next car... in couple months really cant wait!!

john banks 12 February 2010 02:15 PM

A tuned 335i will be octane limited, you want the best you can in those circumstances.

Some standard ECUs will increase boost with low octane fuel to make up for the retarded timing. They can be programmed to target the same torque in all circumstances.

Away from this artificial situation, a knock limited engine loves octane and there are huge differences between a quality 95 RON and a supermarket 99 RON.

If you can give me the last 7 of your chassis number i can check whether if not the car has ever been to my dealership otherwise its a case of tracing where it has last been serviced which can prove difficult but its worth a try:)

Mine would have quite a big gap unfortunately :( If the last service was carried out at a BMW dealer I'm hoping I can get another dealer service, and see if they would 'back stamp' for the last service as I want to keep full BMW history if I possible.

I have a Ford booklet that says my Focus ST will gain 5% power when using super unleaded which is 11bhp, not to be sniffed at.

I only use Tesco99 in the Focus as it doesn't cost much more than nul and
d gives much better mpg than vpower or shell super.
