My New E92 335i SE

Well, I've had her a week - and loving it

Sytners were very helpful and I'll quite happily buy my next one from them if they sharpen their pencils enough. I dealt with Helen Tassi, and she was really really helpful, she drove all the way from Nottingham on a Sunday morning to Preston to bring me the forms to sign before I bought the car. So I'd say: highly recommended.

The car has been fantastic, fuel consumption is much better than the STi I've just got rid of. Performance wise, its very good, although I'd say its not quite as quick as my Scoob but then its a completely different thing altogether (it is obviously quicker however, once you start getting toward license losing speeds.. so I hear). Its more than enough at the moment but I am planning a full Bastuck system and remap (among other things) :D

So far, the only mods are BM Performance black grilles, carbon roundels and pressed plates (I know not to everyones taste but I like them - i think they look quite 'clean'), oh and the exhaust valve mod. I have ordered some black lower grilles from the states, but they have to be routed to my dads in Canada as they dont ship to the UK - bit of a pain that there doesnt seem to be any UK suppliers of these yet.

On the more mundane stuff:

I really like the iDrive system, although it does seem to be a contentious issue - love it or hate it from what I've read? Cant really see why anyone would hate it :confused2

The interior finish is really excellent IMO, and its crazy to think what my 53 plate 330Ci M was like compared to it - million miles apart, feels really luxurious (to me).

Complaints? Its a bit crashy over bumps and potholes when pressing on, and can be a little unnerving when it momentarily steps sideways a few inches. That is something that will be getting looked at too.

Other than that, its a really great car, and I can only imagine when it comes time to replace, that an M3 or 911 will suffice!

Here are some pics (off my phone), only washed and chamoised, not had time to polish it properly yet...

Looks lovely, like the black grills. :)

Matteeboy 05 February 2010 04:28 PM

Splendid!

New_scooby_04 05 February 2010 04:32 PM

Nice car mate. Enjoy!

Just promise us you'll never drive it with your shirt collar popped up, the top two buttons undone and a bluetooth headset on full display ;) :D

Also, if you mention business B.S words words like "Synergy" when driving, you shoud know that the car is programmed to eject you from the driver's seat!

Then run you over.

Twice! :D

Very nice! :thumb:

IMO I would get the number plates changed to ones with a standard font, and change the badges to the regular white and blue ones, but looks like a great car!

You'll be wanting a remap soon no doubt as the gains are pretty impressive. I think you're looking at about 350bhp :)

Jamz3k 05 February 2010 10:58 PM

fantastic looking! only thing i'd change in the chrome window surrounds.

paulwrxboro 05 February 2010 11:02 PM

I like it as it is :thumb: id probably darken the wheels a bit

kin quick 06 February 2010 12:00 AM

Looks really nice, well done fella :thumb:

stilover 06 February 2010 10:24 AM

Looks very nice that. Not a BMW fan myself, but that does look nice. Very nice wheels too. If I was speccing one, I'd deffo have those wheels on it.

thesyn 06 February 2010 09:02 PM

Looks nice, forgive my ignorance but what are the outputs and performance figures?
There is one down the road from me, same colour, looks quite small ( in a good way ) but can you get much people/stuff inside?
Definitely get those number plates changed!

Maz 06 February 2010 09:43 PM

Very, very nice. I agree with the above poster and think you should change the plates. I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking the coupe's back end looks so much better than the saloons.

Jay_bee 07 February 2010 07:56 AM

Thanks :)

Def not changing the badges and plates back just so it looks like every other one on the road, I want it to be a little different. Got some black lower front grilles coming from the States too :D I'll also be adding some Vorsteiner front and rear lower diffusers, fitting a Quaife lsd and M3 arbs etc and ditching the run flats, which are bloody awful!

The quoted power figs are 305bhp/400lbft, but Ive heard that when standard ones have been dyno'd, there are more like 325bhp. I will be replacing the standard exhaust system for a Bastuck one and a remap, which without doing anything else, should see somewhere in the region of 380 - 390bhp/500lbft. If i put a bigger fmic on and decat, I should see something around 440+ bhp

The coupe is a 4 seater (I'll take some interior pics later and put them up), no middle bit in the rear seats, but actually, theres quite a lot of leg room, certainly more than was in my E46 330Ci

Matteeboy 07 February 2010 08:05 AM

Jay - you might be talking NM not lbs/ft - the 335i is 300ish lbs/ft stockand a remap will up that to high 300s. Bhp is just over 300, a remap will see that around high 300s bhp.

The "d" is 286bhp/428lbs/ft standard. Most have been RRd at 300ish bhp or more stock.

In fact both seem to have conservative bhp and performance figures from BMW - maybe after the overquoting of bhp on the E36 and E46 M3s? They got in trouble for that!

Ah yes, you're right, my mistake!

(well, its still early on a Sunday morning, and Im in Kent at the moment - i think the air, water and strange language is taking its toll - I should have had my jabs before coming down here :D)

beef-on-the-bone 07 February 2010 11:27 AM

i like it!!

scooby1doo1 07 February 2010 12:01 PM

These are very good cars my bro had 1, it dint beat my scoob to 60 but after that he was gone. From 70mph on the motorway i just tuck my foot off as i was left for dead, 26mpg around town plus scholol runs. The crashing and skiping is the run flats not the best of rubber to use. When he sold it tuck it to the stealers and was offered 12k with 14k miles about 8months back, sold it on fleebay for 16.5k.
370bhp just from a remap 400bhp with intercooler and exhaust

SPIDERWRX 07 February 2010 12:26 PM

Would you fit a baby seat in the back mate, as i was looking at getting the saloon. but that coupe looks lovely :thumb:

Matteeboy 07 February 2010 03:14 PM

Speccing non RFTs transforms any E90 series 3er. Hugely worthwhile.

Didn't realise it was you Jeff!:D Looking forward to see how the car responds to the mods you have planned. How does it compare to the STI on a day to day basis.

Jay_bee 09 February 2010 10:26 AM

:D no worries matey :thumb:

On a day to day basis, it kicks the STi's arse!! I've recently been to Kent and back in it, and i wasnt driving like miss daisy and I got nearly 400 miles out of a tank!! Performance wise, its quick - the DTC is pants though and can be a right pain in the butt when it kicks in just when you dont want it to. Now I've done the exhaust valve mod, it sounds a little reminiscent of a Ferrari! (and yes, I'm being serious). The runflats are an utter disgrace and I have no idea how/why BMW thought they were a good idea :wonder:

Yeah, theres plenty of room for a couple of baby seats in the back, but it is only a 4 seater.... heres a pic

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...K/IMAG0031.jpg

Matteeboy 09 February 2010 10:36 AM

We have a MASSIVE (depth wise) rear facing baby seat in ours (Touring) - yes it's tight but it fits fine.

This is the seat before I set it up properly - it's now only 3 notches away from fully back:

Any forward facing seat would fit in no problem.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...m/P1000517.jpg

AFAIK the coupe has a similar amount of room but access is obviously harder.

Dream Weaver 09 February 2010 02:02 PM

I do like those seats Matt, good colour IMO.

Shame my 335d buying process is proving impossible. Only one in the country that meets our needs and it's £2k over budget!! :(

Matteeboy 09 February 2010 02:04 PM

Dream - thanks and oh darn. Can you relax the spec at all?

Hold out for the right one Si, you'll appreciate it soooo much more :thumb:

Dream Weaver 09 February 2010 09:49 PM

Just found one which is £1900 over budget so will phone them tomorrow for a chat. :)

Jay_bee 10 February 2010 09:39 AM

Let us know how you get on :luxhello:

Dream Weaver 10 February 2010 01:13 PM

It's bloody sold, this is unreal :(

It was a Le Mans blue 335d M Sport Touring at Sytner in Essex, 07 plate, 15k miles and most of the options - nav, PDC F/R, xenons, leather, bluetooth, and lots more and was up for £25,850. Was hoping they could knock a bit off and trade in the Civic!

It only arrived on the BMW website last night and I've only just got back to the office to phone them about it and it's gone already!!

There's only one other on BMW, 57 plate so at least it should be the ED version, but it's at 37k and priced up at £26k which is too high IMO.

Think I may have to broaden the search to include the 320D again and/or 325/330d as well. Maybe an ED 330D version will be OK, aren't they about 245bhp?

Matteeboy 10 February 2010 02:11 PM

Oh bugger - that sounds like a good one too!

ED 330d is very good too - if a perfect spec one comes up, I'd grab it.

SPIDERWRX 10 February 2010 05:56 PM

The waiting is over, i pick this up today part ex the scooby

Matteeboy 10 February 2010 07:00 PM

Nice one!!! That looks like a belter!

If I had no kid (or dogs or MTBs or surfboards!) I'd get a coupe too. They look the business.

Twin turbo 3.0 litre straight six BMW section maybe?!
