opinions on bugeye impreza

hi all , my mate wants to buy my classic from me , even tho i havent said its for sale . ive been looking at some bugeye models and im not sure on them , so i thought i would get some opinions before i give my mate a answer about buying mine .
ive seen a nice white one on ebay but its got no m o t or tax and says it needs new rear shocks which is no probs to be honest . this is the item number 150410160850 , what do u lot think should i stick with the classic are update to a bugeye
thanks kev

im a big fan of a white bugeye, but then again ...i would say that. to be honnest ide make sure it had a full mot and the shocks done before i bought it, but it does look a nice car. also a full service history is advisable. .

That bug doesn't look bad, especially for the price, just make sure you get it checked out.

Bugs are real marmite cars, and when they came out I hated them. Mine has really grown on me now and I love the way it looks. I just wouldn't have a WRB or silver one, black, white and DBM are my favourite colours:thumb:

jef 01 February 2010 08:05 PM

a year ago id never ever have considered one, but theyve certainley grown on me

i beleive you get a lot of car for the money on a good sti bug

probably be my next one - in years to come

Can't see any mention of history.
If MOT has expired, I'd tempted to have it inspected professionally by someone who knows Scoobs. You don't want to buy a money pit.
An MOT is in the region of £50 tops...I would be concerned what else has been skimped on to be honest.
Having said that,I too like white Scoobs.

i went from owning classics to a bugeye sti and i dont regret it for a second.

kevpott 01 February 2010 08:10 PM

i will email him to find out about the service history and putting a mot on it .As mine went straight through with only 1 advisery (loud exhaust ) lol . if i do sell mine im going to put the other exhaust system back on so i can fit my full 3 inch system on to the bugeye if it fits, i think it will as it a my2000 . time to talk to the misses when she gets home from work then

I have no complaintsabout my bugeye STi. Have had it from new on a 51 plate. Had it on the rollers last week for a tweek and pushing out a healthy 416 bhp at 97k miles. The engine has standard internals, so cannot complain at that. Like you say if the rear shocks are bust then upgrade them. But I would make sure it gets a MOT, or that it goes to a garage of your choosing so that if it fails you will be happy with the fail sheet and be able to take it back once fixed.

jamiedream 01 February 2010 08:13 PM

I had a classic before got my blob. Iv absolutely hated bugs until the mcrae gathering and saw a White one. Don't knw if it's cos I like White cars but I certainly love a White bug......... Very nice PowerWRX

dont think your 3" system will fit onto the bugeye mate. the sections are different. if you do fit one though then ide suggest a remap due to it having ppp already

cheers matey:thumb:

kevpott 01 February 2010 08:20 PM

i was going to sell the ppp ecu if i get it to pay towards a remap . thats the plan .. just emailed him asking about the history how long its been of the road and what mods have been done to the engine . i would take it to the same place that i got mine moted as i deal with them every day supplying them parts .

Midlife...... 01 February 2010 08:20 PM

The bugeye looks quite nice in white....... it will need a lot of work to get it to modded STi power but at 250 odd BHP with the PPP it's no slouch.

Some eibach springs will help :D

Just check it has the PPP certificate. It's got no rear wash so UK / Euro car, colour coded and lip spoiler, new badge as well. No a-pillar radio mast so MY02 / series 2.

Worth a punt if sound :D

your bug looks great by the way powerwrx

flat4phil 01 February 2010 08:24 PM

You will notice some nice 'enhancements' going from the 'Classic' to the new age, creature comforts and some familiar touches from the old car, so nothing lost. If your classic is modded; tubular headers, big bhp, then naturally the new age car is going to feel refined and lack lustre even mapped. But if it's a standard Classic, WRX or STi, it'll be a good change. (Indicator stalk on the same side as other European cars is one thing you'll have to get used to!) Go on give the bug some love.

kevpott 01 February 2010 08:30 PM

the indicators want bother me as im used to driving diffrent cars whenm i worked in a garage , which i now miss lol . i just had another look and its 125 miles from me so i would have to get it transported down to me which is going to cost . i think i will just watch it as im not willing to pay over 3500 for it with mot or tax

powerwrx 01 February 2010 08:34 PM

you will notice the difference in how the power is delivered going from a classic to newage...i did! with the newage you dont get that kick in the back like you do in a classic when the turbo kicks in... its a more gradual delivery... also like above, the newage is alot more car for your money..inside is a nice place to be, as the classic is a alot more basic interior

kevpott 01 February 2010 08:37 PM

i must admit i like the kick when it boosts up but it catch u out at times like pulling out of work on damp roads in a rush . lol

kevpott 01 February 2010 08:39 PM

just got this message from thje bloke somthing seems wrong to be honest

The service history was lost b4 i got it mate so t will need a service the only mod i did is the back box but its got the prodrve pack and a dump valve obviouslt its had respray which is on the log book and the bodykit isnt standard it does have bucket seats also. ive only driven it a couple of times since november but it runs perfectly

Paul

Pablofb7 01 February 2010 08:46 PM

L.J.F 01 February 2010 09:03 PM

there are plenty of decent bug sti's out there mate so sell your car and take your time and you will get yourself a bargain in this climate.

kevpott 01 February 2010 09:19 PM

thanks for that but i need the car for work . i will have a look round for a while before deciding on any thing to b honest

dunx 01 February 2010 09:50 PM

It won't get an MOT with knackered rear shocks....

Barter him down with that and the transport costs...

IMHO

dunx

DJ_Jon 01 February 2010 10:29 PM

Reckon that could be a bargain for someone, it would make a good project car or a shell for a nice engine.. :norty:

2002 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX WHITE on eBay (end time 07-Feb-10 19:35:10 GMT)

Not for a first time buyer.......... but for someone with time on their hands who wants a white car and is good on the spannering front then £2250 buys a lot of newage to play around with :)

his-n-her-scoobs 01 February 2010 10:56 PM

Wouldn't touch this one with a barge pole, something smells.

As for wether you should change up best thing you can do is borrow/test one locally and make up your own mind. I purchased a lovely 53 plate blob 2 years back and sold it a month later, it just felt too lardy and (for £7k) disappointing. On the other hand you may love it. We all have our own priorities and I love the classic for the bang per buck factor.
