Rover SD1 3500 Vitesse

Would a REALLY good one be worth having as a garaged classic car for weekend use only, or would you expect to spend the rest of your life repairing/regretting it?

Does anyone have any experience of owning one? As a schoolboy I always remember them being a cut above the typical 2.8i Capri brigade and winning the ETCC in the mid-80's in TWR guise.

Power steering is way to light - you end up zig zagging down the road. Horrid interiors and rust like a biatch.

Worth keeping as a classic - nope, worth for the novelty factory - oh yes!

My dad had a moonraker blue twin plenum when it was 6 months old.....although I was only about 10 I remember him always moaning about the amount it cost him! I know it had a new gearbox and several steering issues.

Looked and sounded ace though!!!

Lovely cars to drop the baby sitter off in.

Especially if they are called Rita and Sue.

My Dad had a white one years ago, I remember it had a trip computer that for the day was almost space age. I am not sure if they will ever be really sort after but a clean one would be nice to own just to keep a cool car alive.

I also remember that you can break into them with a tennis ball so dont leave any valuables in them ;)

I have a few engines out of them. Presumably the chassis turned to brown dust long ago. ;)

I'm pretty sure it was a 2600SE.

Rita Sue and Bob too. Great film, though probably less well received today.

Bob drove a burgundy 3500SE with tan/brown interior.

when i was 10, my dad had the SD1 V8-S model, W reg. Loved that car, 145mph(indicated on speedo) thought it was the fastest car ever. used to start it up and it would blow dust off the pathway when u revved it.:D
I had a 2yr old SD1 2000 when i was 17. Learnt to drift in it, rally, race you name it. used to blow the clutch resevoir every week wheelspinning! Was like a double bed in the back:norty: good times:D Ended up blowing second gear out of the box, sprayed it black and sold it to a guy who was gonna race it. all in the 9mths i had it.
