a few Q`s from a new person to scoobynet

im in the process of "thinking" about getting a scoob, but have some question that i hope you guys could help me with??

1. whats the difference (mechanically) between a WRX--WRX STI--WRX STI PPP?

2. does the hawkeye WRX STI have xenons as standard or option only?

3. any common faults on the hawkeye STI?

4. ive read (or mis-informed perhaps) about the 2.5 engine being weak is this fact?

5. what should i be looking when purchasing?

6. what`s the going rate for a 2007 STI? (below average miles)

7. servicing cost`s and interval`s? (STI)

8. standard tyre size and rough price for STI?

anything else i should/need to know???

thanks.

mickey

Dam answering all them will take hrs lol ill do a couple then let some 1 else have a go...

1.wrx is weaker than a sti depending on age and if its a uk or jap car there is many differences ie spec c type 20-25 22b s202 p1 type r ect ect

2.yes standard xenons.

3.No common faults but hawkeye wrx is as good as the sti modell will run hight 300s all day long with few tweeks.

4.This depends how far you take them standard sti s witha decent map should be fine..

5.Low miles or a car thats been looked after bye a good garage ie zen rcm ect ect check for suspension issues bald tyres on inside, clutch brakes and 100% check for engine noise rattles knocking.

6.£14k ish

7.Depending where you go and alot do them every 5-7k miles

8.re 070s sesantantas f1s depends really and they around £70-£120 each. . 225/40/17s

I think ive done most you want to know ...

Bit of quick advice, buy an STi instead of a WRX or you'll end up spending a fortune trying to make it as good as the car you should have bought in the first place. :)

lemonaid5 01 February 2010 12:12 PM

1. The PPP has the prodrive rear decat and rear section, as well as a remap. Otherwise they are mechanically the same as far as i'm aware. There are quite a few changes between the STI and WRX...

4. AFAIK the 2.5 is almost as strong as the 2.0

7. Every 10k miles/year, 2nd service is about 200 and 3rd about 300, unless you go main dealer in which case you'll be paying a lot more.

8. The standard tyres are the RE070s, fairly expensive and won't last long. They're 225/45/17. I run F1 asymmetrics 235/40/18s which I feel are good value for the tyre.

I can't really help but think that this is a complete windup and you boys have just sat typing all those answers. :lol1:

have no fear, they are all real questions that i would like to know from impreza owners.

ive got one in mind and dont want to waste my hard earned on something that i dont need/want etc.

mickeymouse 01 February 2010 03:07 PM

ok the one ive got me eye is a hawkeye 2007, met graphite black with 16k on the clock.
one ad says with ppp, but the other ad doesnt mention it.

priced at £18k.

which seems VERY high priced compared to others ive seen. its also from a main dealer.

Mikkel 01 February 2010 03:22 PM

How much? You can get an RB320 (Special edition) for that kind of money. Standard 07 STi even with low miles should not exceed £14-15k.

In answer to your earlier questions:

1. whats the difference (mechanically) between a WRX--WRX STI--WRX STI PPP?
STi gets bigger brakes, 6 speed gear box, DCCD to name but a few... over the WRX.

The PPP is a second cat removal and a remap on the hawkeye.

2. does the hawkeye WRX STI have xenons as standard or option only?

Yes, standard.

3. any common faults on the hawkeye STI?

Knocking rear struts are a common one.

4. ive read (or mis-informed perhaps) about the 2.5 engine being weak is this fact?

No, you've been misinformed. They aren't as strong as the 2.0ltr but that only really comes into play when going for high levels of tune. I have been running 360 bhp on my O6 STi without issue for nearly 3 years (10k miles).

5. what should i be looking when purchasing?
Full history is a must and the usual things you look for when buying any car.

6. what`s the going rate for a 2007 STI? (below average miles)
See above.

7. servicing cost`s and interval`s? (STI)
Handbook states annually or every 10k miles for the UK car.

8. standard tyre size and rough price for STI?
As above. Expect to pay around £100 a corner and only buy the very best tyres for an Impreza or you'll end up in a hedge.

It states that in the handbook. I get mine done annually, which tends to be every 4k (ish) miles.

yup +1, i change my oil every 3.5k, some say i am paranoid, imo for what it costs, prevention is better than cure.
also regarding tyres, i now fit 235/45/17, just a tad wider but i think a little better for it:thumb:.
regarding the price, yes i agree it seems a little high, but, there may be a lot of extras with that ie, sat nav/blutooth/ uprated springs/ extended warranty/ 1 years tax inc/ full tank of juice. etc. just remember to haggle!!:thumb:

my06 ppp silver 01 February 2010 05:22 PM

sorry thought asking price was 17k, just realised it up for 18k. too expensive is the first thought that springs to mind

Go for the hawkeye STi.

Exhaust and remap takes it to 350+bhp and 400lb/ft and is a cracking car for that.

Decent geometry set up and the std RE070 tyres will last for ages and grip like anything. I got 18,000 miles off two sets of RE070's including track days and ring trips - love them.

2.5 is a great engine for sub 400bhp - if you go above that it is worth putting in some better pistons and depending on how far above, some better rods but with a good map it will reward you with a massive range of power and torque galore.

Some really good examples at around £14k.

this is the one i was looking at...
2007 Subaru Impreza 4 Door Saloon 2.5 WRX-STI TYPE UK PPP

See if its up as a used car on the Subaru website with the option to "make an offer"

If it is you know they have had it a while and need to shift it!

I got my Forester in December that way after putting in a stupidly low bid and then meeting half way.

Full Subaru used car warranty, serviced and sorted included in the lower price.

People are not buying these kind of cars so push on price.

This is one I know personally and it is a great car:
