problems starting up... again
 

having a problem stating the car again. I had this before and I thought it was the battery so bought a new one a few weeks ago but it's happening again.
The battery is full charged an get the started motor going ok but it can take a while to fire up.
I went out on the West mids run this morning and car started fine when I left after standing in the cold all night but ater leaving it in the car park it took a bit of 'persuading' to get going.

anyone got any suggestions. As I have said, I have already chaged the battery so that's my extensive knowledge exhasuted.

Alternator not charging correctly......

My classic STI had a problem that it always fired up straight away when cold, but wouldn't start some times when it was warm. Fixed it with a new crank shaft sensor. Check you fault codes, mine was showing as crank shaft sensor.

I doubt it is a problem with the alternator charging the battery, it is a new battery and there does seem to be plenty of juice for the starter, its not sluggish, starter kicks in and sounds fine, it just doesn't seem to want to fire up.
I will get my tester on the battery though just to confirm this.

Not getting any error codes for the engine just the airbag warning light which has been onor a while (and I need to get round to sorting this I know).

Wouldn't say it a problem with warm starts as it can happen when cold too, could it still be the crank sensor?

You aren't, by any chance, touching the throttle before starting the engine are you? Or during starting? You are supposed to keep your foot off it until the engine fires, failure to do so can lead to flooding and poor starting;)

It's not a battery problem. My 03 STi has suffered intermittant bouts of poor cold starting, then all of a sudden it will start first time on the button and go like this for weeks! At the moment it's behaving itself and will start first go, even after standing a week out in the cold.
I've checked the crank and cam sensors and they're fine.
It's been doing this for years!
