driveshaft removal

my inner gaiter on the front drive shaft needs to be replaced, does anyone have a tutorial for removing D/S?

r1c 30 January 2010 08:23 PM

Jack up car, remove the wheel, remove bottom ball joint, remove hub nut from centre of brake disc, drive out pin from inner joint sleeve connecting to gearbox, pull shaft out from car, job done!!!

what does this mean? "drive out pin from inner joint sleeve connecting to gearbox"

mje_wrx 30 January 2010 09:10 PM

theres a pin running through the drive shaft where it connects to box. can miss it when looking, 6" nail is good and hammer to hit them through, re use the pins

scoobmj 30 January 2010 09:15 PM

so the shaft wont pull out of the box without removing the pins first?

how long should it take to remove and put new one in? roughly

mje_wrx 30 January 2010 09:47 PM

how good a mechanic are you, took me 20 mins, one out one in.

scoobmj 30 January 2010 09:54 PM

i am a resonable DIYer.

changed my engine + turbo +all suspension struts etc etc

scoobmj 30 January 2010 09:55 PM

so presumably the wheel alignment should not be affected?

r1c 30 January 2010 10:06 PM

No wheel alignment should be ok your not touching the steering
