travel times and distances
 

I have applied for a job in my field which is about 1.5hrs driving away circa 100miles

What do the SN massive travel and distances?

15 mins home to station
1 hour 2 mins station to London
45 mins tube
3 min walk

and reverse

4 hour daily commute! what a nightmare mate.

45 minute each way for me and that's a total grind.

Out of bed - 10 seconds to walk downstairs and I'm there!!

About 25 miles / 1 hour each way

Used to do Wokingham to Kingston and back (3-4 hours a day)

Then Wokingham to Reading and back (45-2 hours a day)

Now House to office 30 secs walk across the court yard!!! MUCH BETTER :D

I'm based at home and my average daily milage is 150

I love driving tho so don'r see it as a problem

I am used to doing an hour but the missus is getting upset as she thinks it's too far and she will never see me.....they are hard work.

Ouch, 7 miles each way, 30mins in the morning, 20mins going home in the evening is all I can stand.

I get to work in about 5 minutes - door to door.

I go home every lunchtime, which is pleasant ....

Personally, I think to be 20 minutes away would be better - to give chance to un-wind and switch from work to home mindsets ...... but I'm not going to complain too much :D

70 miles / 1hr 30 mins each way........once it becomes routine you'll be fine !

45 miles and ~45 minutes each way (M40 and northern part of the M25). I have to leave home around 6am to miss the traffic to keep the time down, if I left at 7:30am it would be a 90 minutes journey. I've been doing this since 1989, used to be 5 days a week, but now only 3 days so at least I miss the Friday night traffic.

It can be pretty draining, but you do get used to it. Good job I don't need much sleep.

Used to do Haywards Heath to Kingston. 80odd mile round trip. Could not stand it so changed uni's :D i now do a 25 mile round trip with a empty country lane commute :thumb:


I agree with SSU though, time to unwind is nice.

If its 100 miles away then I would guess its more than 1 1/2 hours.

I've never had to travel to work. My first job though I did alot of miles. I passed my test in the March and was given a work van in the following Jan. I had it about 12 months and did 40K. Not bad for my first full year driving.

Our office is only about 2 or 3 miles from home. Its all hills so its a bit of a mission to bike home. Daughters school is on the way and wifes salon is round the corner from my office so she parks in our carpark.

All very sedate.

Work What's that ? :D

In theory:

20 mins walk to station
20 mins on the train
20 mins on the tube
+ 15 mins general waiting around for train / tube to arrive

Actual:

15 mins to station, walking / running as I've left the house late again
15 mins waiting on the platform due to signal failure (again)
25 mins train (London Midland apologies for the delay to your journey)
5 mins trying to get through the ticket barriers due to crowds
5 mins waiting for tube, then 5 mins waiting for the next tube as the first one was too full
20 mins actually on the tube
10 mins walking to the office dodging tourists gormlessly looking at Big Ben (or more accurately, the clock tower of the palace of westminster) and stopping in the middle of the bloody path to get a photo and tutting when none of the 100 people walking on the path stop to let them get their photo - hint to tourists, there is a great photo spot next to churchill's statue in the middle of parliament square and no people walking past actually trying to use the pavement for its intended purpose!

And relax!

Working from home this morning - much more relaxing (and more time for scoobynet posting)

I am reasonably lucky in that it only takes me 15 mins most days, this is because work is basically a dual carriageway away from me, the times i usually travel has little traffic, so its a simply 10min 70mph blast up the road.

bus lane starts at my front door. 5 mins on the bus. 10 minute walk along a tranquil Lagan tow path. same on the way home. car sits in the drive Monday to Friday. drove 3600 miles in my car last year :D

I really should be walking the 10 bus stops (about 30 minutes) though.
