Newage pods and guages - Triple Centre Pod? or double a pillar pod? + installation

hi guys

2 questions really, my car is standard inside so has no guages, i waas thinking i should have at leasta boost guage and an oil temp guage.. possible even oil pressure?

anyway which of these two would be the best to get? the centre pod or a pillar? (does the centre pod get in the way with it being big?)

following from this which are the best guages?

and then finally what exactly do i need to fit these guages? can i do it myself? or is it too complicated?

cheers

Comes down to personal preference mate. Some prefer the A-pillar whereas others a centre pod. Me? I went centre pod for two main reasons. Easier to fit and also finding a decent fitting 3 gauge A-pillar pod was a nightmare. :thumb:

Best? I'd say Defi.... I went for the Pro-Sports though as they couldn't be beaten for VFM. Fitting is relatively easy although having a mate who's done it before always helps :D

ok i'll go centre pod, and defi guages are best? what size pod holder would i need 52mm? 60mm?

so with regards to fitting and wiring up.. does everything come with the guages? as i hear people mention something about senders etc. how would i know ive got everything i need to wire them up? (if buying second hand)

Bigarf has a set and he's just down the M62

P.S. Defi controller can use srd clock connections, then sensors need wiring in. Adaptor needed for oil P & T.

P.P.S. I have a carbon pod 60mm holes, swap+cash for non-carbon one for flocking...

Another vote for Defis. Whether you go for 60mm or 52mm is down to personal preference.

With Defis, you get everything you need to fit, wire up and connect, EXCEPT the adaptors dunx mentioned above, which are available from Defi dealers like Scoobymania.

You DO need the control box though.

From what I've read defi are the best, but they are expensive as you need to buy the controller as well. I have just installed some prosport gauges (at least 50% cheaper if you take the controller into account as well). The seem good to me, and if you use the gauge fitting guide thread in the interior section fitting is relatively easy as well.

I bought a centre pod as I like the look rather than pillar gauges, but I bought the scooby world one which was half the prove of some others, but now I'm thinking I should have paid a little more for a better looking one.

A few people have reported problems with the prosport gauges and their connections at the back, but mine are a really tight fit and I haven't had any trouble.

DEFI DEFI DEFI. all the way!!! not cheap, as already mentioned but i think the best. i got a Kakumei carbon triple pod for mine. apparently not avaliable new any more but with that setup i dont think you can go wrong.

the fitting kit came from scoobyparts aswell as all the defi's

nasioc and iwsti have loads of how-to's.

how did u get the dash clock to show through underneath? always thought that got removed..

alcazar 28 January 2010 04:41 PM

I think some of the pods have a cutout for the clock.

What use is a clock when you have a modified Impreza ?

LOL

alcazar 29 January 2010 08:38 PM

So you can sit and stare at it on the French motorway after your modded Impreza goes bang?..........:(

eggy790 29 January 2010 09:31 PM

lol love the look of the defis. defo on my list to get

alcazar 29 January 2010 10:11 PM

I had three on mine: boost, oil pressure and oil temperature. When it went bang, I also fitted a Defi water temperature gauge and a fuel pressure gauge.

The fpg can be toggled to work with the boost gauge so that it shows the differential pressure between the two. Any slight change will then sound the alarm: less chances of it running lean and detting itself to death again:(

Jeff just check that it's a Version II controller.... I'm not sure the earlier version did !

Opps !
