Goodyear eagle f1 GSD3 and asymmetrics - Wear?
 

I've always been a fan of the GSD3's and had them on my last three cars, luckily when I bought my STI last year it had 4 brand new GSD3's fitted to it.

Now after 7k miles they are down to 3-4mm except the NSF which is down to 2mm (that what happens when you live in MK with all the roundabouts!) Also, due to the pattern thay always seem to look balder than they are.

So I'm starting the hunt for new tyres fancy a try of the Asymmetrics.

Has anyone any experience of both?
And do the Asy wear any better?

i run the GSD's. About 2 years ago i bought 4 together. The fronts wear quicker than the rears and i bought 2 new fronts about 9 months ago. I only do about 8000 miles a year. I reckon i will change all 4 again in the summer time.

I think they are a great tyre. The only other ones i would consider using is Vredestiens due to the good reviews people have given them

cant go wrong with the vredestiens ultratrack, very good dry and wet, last long aswelz.

^^^^^^ Totally agree. The Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's are by far the best road tyre i've had on my car

Agreed. Mine have now done around 4k miles and still look as new. I'll be rotating them soon though to get the most out of them. Depends how you drive of course.

For a while now i have been driving like a pussy. LOL.
My asymmetrics have done 16k miles and are down to 3-4mm.
But i have not done much fast or hard cornering at all.
The worst i ever had were the Toyo T1-S, they wore down well quick.

I've managed to scrape around 9000 miles from Asymetrics at best - but the roads here are fast and twisty. Towards the end of their tread life, the Asymetrics seem to get quite quite noisy and 'crashy'. Overall I prefer Sessantas and that's what will be going on the car come summer :thumb:

I use Assymetrics.
I wouldn't buy them for their wear characteristics.
Obviously there is always a trade off between grip and wear.
Price is another variable to throw in.
People do rave about Vreddies, but I bought Toyo Poxies on the same strength and came to the conclusion that people bought them because they couldn't afford decent tyres.
The only good thing about the Poxies was that they wore out fairly quickly.:thumb:

GSD3 are a great tyre and yes like most car need to swap the fronts and rears around ;)

On heavier newage car sand dry weather they don't last long, about 3k miles in the summer :rolleyes: might have lasted 4-5k miles if majority of winter milliage.

I've done 15k so far on my GSD3s and down to about 3-4mm (mainly Mway miles and driving like a pussy). Been properly aligned, though.

Got Assymetrics for the wife's Golf GTI and saw that the wear rating is very high which should mean they wear well.

Only problems is on both cars the mpg dropped noticeably after fitting GYs due to the higher rolling resistance (both had Bridgestone 050s before).

I had GSD3 fitted to my car and replaced them with Asymmetric's in September.

Not had the weather to push the tyres yet so at the minute wear is very even, but my GSD3 wore out very heavily on the edges which is why i have gone for the Asymmetric's.

So far my view on the Asymmetric's is all good. Definitely on a par with the GSD3 for grip and feel if not slightly better, will have to wait a while before i can comment on wear though.

Think I'll stick with the GSD3's, as I always rotate the tyres as/when they need it and with a mixture of pussy/sprited driving my tyres never seem to last much more than 10k!
As with Lunar the roads here are fast and twisty, fast being duel-carriageways and twisty being roundabouts!, tyres are never going last long I suppose.
Cant see it being worth the extra £ per tyre for Asy's if they aren't going to last any longer.

Make sure you get a 4 wheel alignment and geometry done. Then you should be able to get a lot more life from the tyres :thumb:

Different car I know, but when I bought my 205 it had bew GSD3's all round. The fronts were pretty much shot at 12,000 miles and they had gone up in price to replace. So I looked at alternative's. Vredesteins were considered but in the end went for Uniroyal Rainsport II's. They're bloody brilliant in all fairness. Cost me £88 delivered for 2 (195/50/15) and have loads of tread left 8,000 miles later. The rear GSD3's are borderline legal now and will be replaced with the same. I find the Toyo T1-r over rated to be fair after having these tyres. They had a tendancy to grip, grip, grip, then lose everything in the wet. Both the GSD3's and Rainsport II's are far superior IMHO regardless of what car they're on.

Will maybe try Vredesteins one day but value for money, the above gets my ££ :thumb:

the rainsports are very good to imo i sell quite a few and people seem pleased

i got the vreddy ultrac sessanta on mine bloody brilliant tyre far superior to the GSD3 and goodyear are brilliant. steer clear of toyos there absolute cheese there is a reason drifters use em, there easy to make lose grip lol

Hope the Vreddys are as good as everybody says as I am getting 4 fitted on Saturday. Always had F1's on my previous Scoobs and was always really happy with them other than the excessive nsf tyre wear. Current car has PZero Nero's and I think they are very poor compared to the Goodyears.

I have always sworn by GDS3 s. I like them so much that I am allways nervous about putting something else on. So interested in how you get on with the Vreddys - can you let me know a few months down the line how they are. I have yet another pair of goodyears at the moment. I just love the way they break grip in a really progressive manner -they give me real confindence on the limit of grip. What I dont like is the wear. But you cant have both I suppose.

Another recommendation for Vredstein Ultracs. Got them on my waggon and I have covered over 12,000 miles on them. That is with a daily 60 mile commute.

I've tried both.
If I were you, I would try out the Assyms once and then you can see if you think it is worth the extra quids.
No other way to find out.
IMO you will prefer the Assyms wet and dry.
