Once magnificent buildings left to crumble. Some stunning interiors as well as exteriors. Such workmanship shall never be seen again, because we are now being presented with 'monstrous carbuncles' penned by pretentious architects for egomaniacs. When I say this I am thinking of places like Doha, Qatar. Bloody awful buildings, one trying to outdo the next, whose sum total is gawdy brickwork trying to wow the masses.

A rambling personal comment, but I know what I mean!

Wow! Like a huge horror or apocalyptic movie set!

An "urban explorers" dream city! :thumb:

Hard to believe this is a city in the US, more like something you would expect to find in a remote part of Russia! (reminds me of Pripyat)

SirFozzalot 19 January 2010 09:47 PM

The pollution pics are pretty fierce!

This stuff annoys me though.....there are countries doing this to the planet and I'm made to feel guilty for leaving my TV on standby!!!

I personally think the pics of Pripyat are as close to being in a nightmare when you are awake. Truly terrifying pictures.

Agreed. There's something about that place that makes me keep on looking at the pictures though.

You are quite right. I work in the chemical industry and the efforts we go to in the UK to ensure that nothing leaves our sites is incredible. Then production is moved by companies to China as the costs are lower.

I can't be too hypocritical though, and neither can most people, as everyone likes cheap consumer goods.

The pictures of Detroit don't overly shock me as it is well known for being very run down and deprived, well, at least on this side of the water it is. It is a shame though as it was a vibrant place with fantastic architecture which is now just crumbling away.

No dead bodies to worry about, just imense poverty

I find both sets of pictures upsetting. The first set is disappointing to see such waste, and the second set are so revealing about the attitude of the government towards the peoples' welfare.

Thought provoking images, thanks for sharing.

Clarebabes 20 January 2010 12:47 PM

OK, I looked. That's horrible. All that pollution! What are we doing about it? We are continuing to cause those comapnies to pollute due to wanting cheap goods. The reason China can sell products so cheaply is because of not having the same rules as us. It just seems so unfair!

There are some buildings in there that are in cod 4, i used to snipe from the bulding with the empty swimming pool on the map called block!

It looked exactly the same, even down to the sharp drop to the deep end and the diving boards!

The pollution in China was very disturbing :(

Makes a mockery of us turning off lights, tv etc, to save the earth.

WRX_Dazza 21 January 2010 09:28 PM

i think this might have been posted before, but if anyone wants to learn something facinating and has couple of hours to kill, have a read of this.....
