Sat nav, any alternative to all those leads everywhere.

Okay, only one, the power lead from the cig lighter. Anyone seen any alternatives. Anyone tried routing a charging cable under the dash?

Just bought a garmin 1210. I'd also like a case, but most are for the non slimline versions of the Nuvi.

Its very possible, infact Halfords offer the hidden wire service at a cost. But I wouldn't want one of those spotty geeks dismantling my dashboard, I can do that myself.

what would scooby do 19 January 2010 03:14 PM

of course it's possible. i had a TomTom hard wired into my subaru. Stuck it down on the drivers side with the bottom resting on the dash. the wire was spliced into the back of the cigarette lighter. real nice job very neat only a small amount of power cable where it goes into the back of the unit.

I have an E36.
So basically you still used the suction pad on the screen, and had a small bit of the lead to connect to it.

yes mate. unit tucked away down on the drivers side right by the A pillar. the power cable goes into holder not the actual device with tomtom. device can be pulled from the car really easy. good sturdy mounts with the tomtom.

The power cable going into the holder is a good design. Okay, cheers.

I have a multi-fag lighter connector in the glove box powered off the back of the fitted fag lighter (cables behind the dash). For portable things like phones (chargers) and sat nav I just have the cable coming out of the glove box but with the lid shut. Poke it back in when not needed.

That's a Passat mind, though I did the same with an Astra and also the last Scoob I had (though can't remember the details of that installation).
