Virgin Media

Anyone had any decent deals from them recently ??? I am looking to getting all 3 services with them but aren't offering me anything decent, considering I have been with them for over 10yrs. May just say Boll*x and go to sky out of principle.

bigsinky 19 January 2010 02:19 PM

50 Mbit for £37. don't have anything else.

Tidgy 19 January 2010 02:36 PM

got all services with them, i got a better deal with them than sky. get a quote from one, ring the other, get them to beat it, then go back to the first, then go to the second etc etc, after about 4 or 5 phonecalls you'll prob find youy get the best deal you possibly can. plus i get much faster internet connection :)

Just what I was going to say. Play one off against the other. You will get a deal and a good one at that.

MOK79 19 January 2010 03:21 PM

I didn't exactly play them off against each other. But I said to the virgin guy, is there anything you can do on the price cause I think I will go and join sky if you can't. No mate sorry...........

That was it. Thing is don't really want to go with sky :(

Speak to the cancellations department, I'm pretty sure they'll have a different script to the guy you were speaking to.

Once you inform them you are thinking of leaving and that you are headed to sky they should do their best to keep you.

Saying that, think fast if you jump ship to Sky, they havent really done lots to enamour themselves to me lately.

Tidgy 19 January 2010 04:28 PM

yeah if your an existing customer threatening to leave does wonders for what deal you can get

Please consider the following before doing so. You may already have some Virgin components but I'll give my story..

I was with Sky+ TV (non-HD) for 5 years and AOL internet for 7 years and BT phoneline before packaging it all up with Virgin.

Plus points:-
1. Price
2. Guaranteed Fast internet (AOL via BT line was only returning 0.5mb). I get just under 10mb and I've subscribed to 10mb so all good (except for 2nd week - see Minus points below)
3. Free wireless gubbins etc

Minus Points
1. TV package overall is not a patch on sky
2. Command response from remote to media box is slow
3. Lots of recording failures so far (in 2 months)
4. Disc showing critical after just over 10hrs recording. Now rectified by formatting hard disc...(Yes, formatted already!)
5. Customer service.. Internet went down after a few days. Nightmare trying to get through and when you do, most operators no feck all. Took one week to get back :brickwall
6. Hidden charge of +£20 for god knows what in first month..
7. HD picture fine. None HD channels come across in very strong colour. Colour adjustment on TV does not alter this!

Lots of other little niggles but too nit-picky to put.

I intend to switch back to Sky+ in Novemeber but will keep BB and landline with Virgin.

Sorry to go off track on your thread.

Nick

I think I'll stick with my VM deal .. ;)

Avi 19 January 2010 07:04 PM

Just got mine, I compared it to sky and Virgin was the better deal for me.

Plus i quite often want to watch/record 3 different programs at once so Sky was out.

Used Quidco so i got £85 back.
Dad referred me so i got a month free (so did he)
And i got 2 months xl tv free (I think that's about £20)

V+ HD
XL TV
L Broadband (10mb)
Phone with Talk Weekends
Extra Set top Box upstairs

£51 a month

Dubzy 19 January 2010 07:22 PM

v+ HD
Talk unlimited
TV XL
10mb Broadband (L)

£43

Just go thru to dis conenctions and they will usually offer you more for free or discount what you already have.

Avi 19 January 2010 07:24 PM

Agreed.. You;re in a better position than me. I am a new customer. I know from my Dad's experiences that once you are out of your first 12 month contract you can get a much better deal from disconnections.

Is that £31 a month for 12 months or is it something like the first 3 months then after that it goes up ????

Have you checked if you can get the Virgin services where you live?

I wanted to change from BT phone/broadband deal to the Virgin TV/Phone/Broadband package deal at the end of last year.... only to find that in my block of flats (6 flats), there are only 5 cable lines going into the block and they won't increase that as it means digging up the road to install one more line and it's not cost effective for them to do that..........:brickwall

Unfortunately, the block owners won't allow a SKY/Freesat dish to be put up, and I can't get a Freeview signal in my area at all (despite being under 20 miles from the centre of London) - so all I have is the standard 5 terrestial channels.......... Virgin was the only option to get a better TV & Broadband set up, and that is blown out now.......... hence why I ask if you have actually checked that you can get Virgin as not everyone can!

And before you say it.... no I'm not moving!

When they built the flats 15 hrs ago, cable was still in it's infancy and they never thought it would ever get as popular as it is today, so the whole estate I live on has problems like this! - Just not enough capacity built into the fibre optic set up when they were building the estate....... :cuckoo:

Ooops. Meant yrs... :)

MOK79 26 January 2010 02:24 PM

Well I finally plucked up the courage and phoned them. They wouldn't budge, not even in cancellations. They even quoted me a monthly cost more expensive than advertised on the website

So now I have emailed their complaints office :norty:
May as well go out in style if I'm going.
