Removing dressings after surgery

Its ok, im not gonna take SN opinion as gospel, but thought I would sound out opinion, to see if any match mine lol.

Before the op yesterday, the surgeon said, "try and keep the dressings on for 24 hours". On discharge, the discharge nurse said "keep the dressings on for 48hours"
Now im of the opinion that firstly the surgeon should know what he is talking about, and secondly that its good to let air get to wounds as soon as possible really.

Who would you listen to?

Main concern is that the dressing will be getting dirty now, and holding said "dirt" close to the wound.

GlesgaKiss 19 January 2010 12:22 PM

The fact that the surgeon told you to 'try and keep the dressings on' for the 24hrs would suggest that it's not going to be a disaster taking them off before then, but would possibly be for the best if you did. I'd probably take his advice and take them off after the 24hrs.

Hysteria1983 19 January 2010 12:30 PM

I suppose if you put some nice clean clothes on after and stay still so the wound isn't irritated by friction, then that should be ok.

I am not sure on the health guidelines so i'd hate to say, yes, do this...... However, like you say, the last thing you want is a dirty dressing festering away on top of the wound.

Snazy 19 January 2010 12:50 PM

Both of you use the same reasoning as me lol, phew.
Im sure with the right clothing I can avoid friction. But that was probably my only concern, tenderness.
With the hand ops its easy to avoid contact, with bits downstairs, not so easy lol.
But then the choice between infection and friction, I will take friction.

Cheers for the opinions :)

let it have a few hours fresh air then get it covered with a sterile dressing until tomorrow the few hours fresh air etc....

Jamie 19 January 2010 12:57 PM

Cheers dude, sounds like a happy compromise. Will have to make sure I have suitable replacement dressings before removing these ones.
Good idea, thx :thumb:

Feck off Jamie lol, im not looking forward to taking the sticky plasters off as it is... They are stuck in painful places

Jamie 19 January 2010 01:08 PM

Show us the damage then snazy and then we can work out what you need to do.

:D

Snazy 19 January 2010 01:13 PM

lol I think I read somewhere in SN policy the following line.

"Posting images if your genitals is NOT permitted"

Speaking of that word, why did the hospital have to be so precise with the sick certificate.... Reason for absence "Genital surgery" ! lol

Eta ;)

Snazy 19 January 2010 01:35 PM

lol technically "smaller" but still usable, if you want to be picky :hjtwofing

Haha, but still, they might as well have said "wart removal" or something lol

Leslie 19 January 2010 01:38 PM

Seems more sensible to me to do exactly what the surgeon and the nurses said. They are the experts surely.

I always kept the dressings as they told me and it worked out ok every time.

Les

Jamie 19 January 2010 01:38 PM

Ah so you had the "wart removal" done how did you get it you dirty stop out ;)

Thats the problem Les, the surgeon and nurse disagree. One says one day, the other says 2 days.

Im a virgin, I dont do those things.

Jamie 19 January 2010 02:14 PM

Just admit it your cock is falling off snazy hey we are all a big family on snet :)

Snazy 19 January 2010 02:40 PM

lol now the dressing is off, that is actually quite a believable statement haha

Devildog 19 January 2010 02:51 PM

Michael,

Experience tells me to listen to the nurse. They often know better as far as dressings, etc are concerned.

What did you have done?

Snazy 19 January 2010 03:20 PM

Aaah, well they are off now lol oops.
All is well, feel better seeing whats going on. Tiny amount of bleeding but was told to expect it after a soak.

I have had the end of the wee man lopped off.

Fook

Any particular reason?

Snazy 19 January 2010 04:21 PM

Medical condition mate, certainly not through choice.
But that said, im 37 in 4 weeks time, not adverse to a little change in life too lol.

Been a long time making the decision to go ahead with it, but it was for the best, both health and recreationally :p

Suprisingly painless if im honest. Taken nothing more than off the shelf drugs since getting out. Although they did load me up with drugs via IV, and also a LARGE local anaesthetic too. On top of the general.

Jamie 19 January 2010 04:26 PM

You let a doctor/surgeon cut the end of your cock off sod that http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...hy/vb_puke.gif

Does it still work snazy ?

I know you have had back problems and I also know how some well endowed women have back problems as a side effect from big jugs, are you telling us that you had it shortened because the weight was hurting your back?!

man up, do like the rest of us and tie it around your waist! :)

Hysteria1983 19 January 2010 04:29 PM

Not being the owner of a penis so I can only begin to imagine what you have been through.

Forgive me for being a bit nosy, but why did you need to have that done?

Jamie 19 January 2010 04:35 PM

He lost his cock chopped robbed now in a green recycle hospital bin:D

lol interesting perspective.
Its really not that traumatic, but as its so different to the other operations I have had over the past 2 years, knowing what to expect, and how to behave was all a bit suprise. Im not for a second trying to make out its agony :)

Well I guess as its rather obvious whats been done, I might as well spill the rest lol. Phimosis is its medical name. Damn uncomfortable to live with.

Looks pretty frustrating that Snazy, as well as painful.

I find it hard enough hitting the toilet when going for a Jimmy, you must have been peeing around corners with that thing.

Hope all's well now though!

Jamie 19 January 2010 04:47 PM

Uncomfortable LOL are you comfortably numb now snazy and that picture is shocking:lol1:

Snazy 19 January 2010 04:59 PM

Im far from numb now Jamie, and I have to say after 24 hours of no feeling, its good to have some back, even if its discomfort. lol

Fitz, it was not pleasent, and being a typical male, it takes a while before you go see the doc and drop ya pants lol. Now its second nature to flop him out haha.
One thing I can honestly say is, its a real learning curve. Starting all over again.

With ref to the pic on the link, thats the first time I have seen that lol. Was not quite that bad. Maybe thats a bad example .

Leslie 20 January 2010 12:15 PM

Sorry you have had to go through all that Snazy, hope its all sorted now anyway.

Les
