remap and tune questions

I have just purchased an 03 sti and would like to give it a tune at the begining of my ownership.

looking to remove cat with a decat down pipe and then tune it.

Simon seems to be highly recomended and he will travel.

couple of questions please

I though a remap is best done under load. (do they tune it with probes in exhaust with a blast down road or is it an off the shelf map based on their experience)

estimation of costs?

are there any tuners in Northeast that people would recomend?

I live Richmond North Yorkshire if this helps

cheers

had remap by the man. top class mate. when he done my car he connected thing around the engine an back to the exhaust so can basically tell everythin that needs doin to run right. he wont leave till your happy. u do a few runs under load at different boost levels to get the fuelling right an even tell u how good/bad the engine sounds

Yes a wideband AFR sensor in the exhaust, det cans and laptop monitoring all give the information needed to do the remapping. It can either be done on the road or on a rolling road (pros and cons for each tbh) and all proper maps will be custom but drawn a lot from previous experience as well (more importantly) as your individual spec and the way your car responds. Generally it takes 2-3 hours to get the best results (sometimes longer).

I spend on average a weekend a month up in the north east mapping for the guys on Tyne Tees Subarus. http://www.tyneteesscoobies.co.uk (aswell as other places in the uk)
