v7 sti help

Hi all ive a v7 sti its standard and running on 99, and its running crap when i get to around 5000 revs foot flat down it just hesitates really badly in all gears. but driving at low revs its good drives spot on any ideas what could be the problem

joz8968 17 January 2010 08:16 PM

Limp home mode been tripped? (Athough I thought that was either 3.5k or 4.5k rpm?)

jack0001 17 January 2010 08:29 PM

i dont no how can i reset this to find out thanks

carl heath 17 January 2010 08:30 PM

my sti (v7)was sh1te when it hit 5600 to 6000 ish revs and felt like it was hitting a brick wall, got few mods and remap and now it redlines all day if you wanted it to,not sure if its like what you describe on your car but thats what mine was like. hth

Forget all this version crap, no such thing as a version 7 anyway, it ended with version 6 in 2000, what you can give us is what year the car is and is it a UK or JDM model and are there any modifications to the car?

Tony:)

carl heath 17 January 2010 09:16 PM

ok calm down lol i know wot v7 means and bet you do.,my 02 is better way of saying what car is tho,i agree.

jack0001 17 January 2010 09:24 PM

thanks for quick replies its a 01 jdm sti with no mods if this helps ive just bought her a week ago

dynamix 17 January 2010 09:31 PM

If JDM sti then it is probably taking huge amounts of timing out due to det if it is like any of the other jdm's I have seen.

Could be fuel pump too causing it to run lean - it has the feeling of strangling itself at that sort of revs.

Need checking.

Where are you based?

jack0001 17 January 2010 09:40 PM

im based in rotherham south yorkshire and it is like its been strangled i just need to get it sorted quick

As it is a JDM it will be mapped for running on better fuel than we get so as said previously the ignition timing with be retarded to reduce det. GET IT MAPPED SOONEST, or you could cause engine damage. If you do get it re-mapped consider a few choice modifications such as exhaust, air filter replacement and uprated fuel pump prior to re-map.

There are serious differences between models, hence why they dropped the versions as its confusing, the fact that this is a JDM car means its running a different map and turbo to a uk car, and as such you should just give the model year and market otherwise its really confusing trying to guess what car is what.

Tony:)

PS, stick to saying yours is a MY02 UK STI, its easier ;) and it wouldnt be a version 7 anyway :p

These cars are mapped for 100 ron fuel, you cannot run them on unleaded, that just blows the engine to bits, they need v power or tesco 99 (id go with v power personally) and a remap is recommended (along with a KS3 knock sensor or the likes).

Tony:)

jack0001 18 January 2010 10:26 AM

thanks for all responces i do run the car on tesco 99, its got imported in 2002 so i hope its has had a remap for uk fuel by now, dynamix is going to have a look at it for me on friday hopefully it will be sorted soon.

coops1 19 January 2010 02:08 PM

My bets are on either bad plugs, coils or fuel pump on its way out. I wouldn't be driving it on boost until its sorted though or you will kill the engine and have a £2k bill on your hands..

dynamix 22 January 2010 06:46 PM

Good to meet you this afternoon James.

Gimme a shout when you have the fuel pump replaced and the pump controller checked.... in the meantime - just keep off boost altogether as it is running severely lean :thumb:

jack0001 23 January 2010 11:36 AM

Duncan it was a pleasure to meet some one who knows what he on about, Ive orded fuel pump should be here monday, and ive talked to my mate and we both want a map doing but it wont be for a few week, once again thank u i be in touch James
