Any one out there got a Forge Dump Valve on an MY01.
Had mine fitted the other day and it doesn't seem to be dumping very often (so to speak) I.e. no piisshh noise on gear change. I have been told that it needs to 'bed in' over the next week as the pistons are stiff.
Interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience.

had one on my car but took it off as wasnt dumping at all and probably wasnt doing the turbo any good..only had it on 1 day

It depends on which spring is fitted to the Forge as to whether it is noisy or quiet. Red spring is quiet, Blue is noisy. You'll have to take it apart to find out. Call Forge and they can sort you out with the blue spring if you want noise.

It does dump occasionally and it is an atmospheric one so it should make the noise.

My concern is that if it is not releasing the air, i.e. no noise, that it will knacker the turbo up.

You should get some pressure release whenever you shut the throttle (quickly) at 3,500+ rpm. Don't rely on hearing the noise - if you have a boost gauge you should see it rise slightly then fall back as the valve opens. If it just rises, then you have a problem.

What was your reason for fitting the forge? If it was to get more noise, take the advice from DaveW above and fit a weaker blue spring. If you wanted improved performance, then the red spring is the best.

IMHO.

I started with a Forge VTA on my '01 WRX - it had a blue string...
It was good noise wise - but would dump the air too quickly/easily which causing problems on track mid corner! (fortunately never caused me to come off). The blue spring is soft.

Then got one with a red spring (hard) - problem with this one appart from the noise not happening often enuff  - was I could see via my boost gauge that if didn't seem to let the pressure go at the right time, too late almost.

Solution - fitted an HKS SSBOV - awesome d/v for the MY'01! Very predictable performance, sounds awesome and is adjustable - just costs a lot!

Alex,
How much did you pay for the HKS dump valve, and were did you acquire it.

I just spoke to Listers and they have said pretty much the same as everyone else, i.e. it has the wrong spring in it. I don't have a boost gauge so i can't tell if it is realeasing the pressure or not. But i suspect not since i can only hear air escaping once in a blue moon.

Back to TSL me thinks....

The HKS (just) under 300 quid RRP.
I bought mine from Johnny at Grasshopper , give him a call - I'm sure he'll sort you out.

Fitted a Forge recirc DV on Friday and it gives a venting sound on de-throttle above 3000 rpm (not as loud as a atmos DV ).
It is a quality bit of engineering when compared to the lump of plastic fitted as standard(which only worked for 2 weeks after the last major service hence the replacement).

All sorted now thanks.
One of the rubber seals had come away and was snagging the piston.
Quick strip and re-grease and lots of Bbbrrrggghhhh Pppiisshh!

Glad to hear ;) that you got it fixed.

Duncan :)
