Over Filling Oil

I haven't done this, but there are always tons of oil threads, and people obviously recommend not to over fill........

What happens if you did though? Just always wondered the consequence's of doing it.... :lol1:

overfilling by a small amount is not the end of the world. over filling by a large amount can caused failure of the oil seals.

i always run mine a little over the max mark had no probs yet but as already said try not to over do it.

Oh no, I won't :) Just wondered what happened if you did. Where are the oil seals? Or everywhere, like engine, turbo etc?

also i have read on here about different peoples option on where and when to check the oil level, and this will also give different readings.

cold engine, warm engine, hole in dip stick, knoch mark on dip stick etc

Hole when cold, notch when warm. Consequences of overfilling include polluting the intake charge if you have standard breathers, under hard cornering or launch. Not good. Common practice is to fill to just-under-the-hole, but better to have breathers-to-catchcan if doing trackdays.

Yeah I have a catch can etc :thumb:

Was just curious on the damage and how it damages things really. As people always warn about not overfilling, but I've not seen/heard of what damage actually occurs.
