Water getting in to boot

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me whether they get this issue?

Seems that when car parked on hill with boot highest and we have heavy rain. Next time I am on the flat and open boot the boot floor is wet.

Is this a common problem and been raised with Subaru? Black seals around boot are all in place.

Interested to hear what people think.

Take out your rear lights and apply silicone to the back, tighten lights back up fully.

can't see how this will help?

water can be seen collecting at one end of the boot, close to the bottom of the window and on top of the boot lid.

obviously if I open boot then it would all flow over the top of the rubber seal but water seems to be getting in even if the boot is not opened.

do a search, i have seen this before posted. is it condensation perhaps and when on a hill it is running, then dripping?

check the spoiler is tight as this leads to water getting in a friend of mines has the same problem and turned out to be a loose bolt holding the spoiler on

thanks will check tracks, condition of rubber, seal around lights and spoiler bolts.

Will let you know how I get on.

Mine has always been bad. I'm thinking of fitting a bilge pump ;) I keep saying I'll fit some STI rear lights (for over 5 years now) and when I do I will be sealing them up well. Fitted a new spoiler so I know that is water tight.

The water ingress is likely though the rear light apature(s), it is a common fault, so, as the man says, take the lights out, clean the light, apature and gasket (clear) silicone sealant to either side of the gasket and put the lights back in. If it is the spoiler (bolts/holes it is best to remove, clean and refit, again using some sillicone sealant as required.

hi
i had same problem on my type r silicone around light best option

Timwinner 15 January 2010 11:37 AM

I had the same on my MY99 and it was the lights. If you life the boot lid and look at the top of the lights you might see a that they stand a tiny bit proud of the wings, This is a classic place for water to get into the boots of Imprezas.

V4JDMSTi 15 January 2010 11:42 AM

Rear lights need re-sealing. Common problem on classics if the lights have ever been changed or if it's had a rear end bump.

not aware of it having a bump, the car is a 53 plate STi

V4JDMSTi 15 January 2010 12:37 PM

Non standard or changed the spoiler?

you've been scoobied 15 January 2010 12:51 PM

its the normal large spoiler seen on STi's

Have you tried a search at all?
There are four main places where water gets into the boot:
1.Rear lights: remove and reseal.
2.Boot seal: check for water ingress after hosing it down, seal under it.
3.Under the spoiler: check and reseal.
4.Rear windscreen glass: rare, but it DOES happen: have it checked by a windscreen place if all esle fails.

Lastly, despite what you have read on here, DO NOT use silicone to seal the spoiler, lights, boot etc.

The correct stuff is Carafax, and is available from caravan dealers and some Halfords. It is non-setting, remains constantly waterproof and, most importantly, the item CAN be removed if necessary;)

Gutter/Roof seal is good too and widely available if you can't find Alcazar's suggestion. Probably wouldn't put it on paintwork (i.e. spoiler) just to be safe.

the rear lights leak like taps and the spoiler holes let water in to . both my scoobs have done this and both have been cured with sealing up the rear lights

f1_fan 15 January 2010 03:51 PM

Had the same issue on my blobeye STI but as that was the least of the piece of crap's problems I never did find out why. It wasn't the lights unless water can travel uphill though.

Oh Lordy!!! Hope it's not my old one for your sake!

chris_bobuk 15 January 2010 08:22 PM

Mine is a 53 and the same, was leaking from the spoiler. Took it off sealed all the holes and refitted and seems ok now. The only thing I do get is alot of condensation in the boot, any metal work is coated in it when its a cold day.

which was ur car f1 fan? pm me the reg?

TAM1981 17 January 2010 06:04 PM

mate had the same problem on my 04 sti and it was the window seal where the rear window meets the boot check by using a hose and point the water under the bottom of the window and then check for drips and if thats the problem take it to get it resealed.http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...lies/thumb.gif
