Renault Megane 03 Estate..How to get to the headlight bulb to change it ???

Son has an 03 Renault Megane estate. He needs to change the passengerside headlight bulb. Handbook says 'remove a cover in the wheel arch and insert hand' . It also points out it is a fiddly job and best done by the dealer ! Son is trying to save a few pence but cannot get his hand into the opening enough to release the bulb. Is there any other way ?

Thanks

This was on 5th gear im sure,
Its a pita to do but they did it,
was a wheel off job as u say and a access panel to get to it.

Why in Gods name would a manufacturer make a car that you have to remove the wheel to change a simple bulb?:freak3:

You can do it by putting full loc on and then fiddling about, you don't have to take the wheel off.

Agreed it is a daft design, but an hour??? Does that include meditation and tea breaks?

Having had one from brand new (03 Hatch)... it is a real pain in the @ss to do but with practice you can knock it down to a 10 minute job. Lucky for you, the passenger side is a little easier than drivers side.

My advice...? Turn the wheel as far left as it goes before you start. Pop open the bonnet and whilst looking from above, stick your hand up the access panel from the wheel arch. It should be 'just' do-able. If you do get stuck, remove the battery.... (takes about 3 minutes) which makes access a lot easier.

I spent the best part of yesterday morning cut out the H7 plug that goes into the new bulb as it had 'melted' and fallen apart. Took me and my brother about 2 hours to cut out the old plug, re-attach a new one and fit a bulb (passenger side) just by using the access panel and removing the battery.

Lesson learnt....?!? I will never by another Renault again.... :D

It's impossible, I know gynaecologists that can't get their hands in places that tight!

A 2 minute job, for the n/s bulb turn the steering all the way to the left, remove the little cover in the wheel arch splash guard, reach in and remove the cap on the back of the headlight (quarter turn anti clockwise) change the bulb and voila. Refit cap and splash guard cover and your done.

On the wife's Xantia, changing a foglight bulb is a front-bumper off job, o/s headlight is grille, sidelight and headlight out, and panel light bulb is airbag and steering wheel off:(

French crap.
